Curtis was first because she came to more fully understand a mate’s mark from the male perspective. This was elaborated on more from Parker’s mother but it’s reaffirmed throughout the story, once she realised he was now only destined for her, and as a feral his odds were far slimmer than those with community, she affirmed with Parker that Curtis was her mate and she would only have one. At that time she had yet to reconcile the normality of multiple mates for herself and she was still quite young. She does say, in multiple instances, that she initially rebuffed the notion of becoming mates with Curtis because she did not know him well enough to judge his character more fully, but had circumstance been different, his mark would be at her heart. It’s implied here but in Chinese it does go on to speak of location significance/bond/order but here it signifies her choice in the matter expressing she loves him most. Muir, she’s eager to have his children after learning that Curtis is not opposed, because she resolved to give each a child/litter before abstaining to not have future pregnancies. Notice it’s Curtis who ends up marrying her first, it’s their daughter they both long for, he is first to be invited into their home and accepted by her family and still has the strongest connection in the sequel Objectively, she didn’t outright accept the wooing of any of them initially because circumstance had other ideas. But objectively still, Curtis is her strongest suit; even the trophy count is in his favor

None of them are inherently bad, despite their actions at times being beyond quite questionable. But they learn and adapt. You don’t get to see here Curtis’ memories of his father or his father’s regard for his mother. And Muir, for an already quiet guy, mellows out quite a bit as well. No family is perfect, even in fiction
