just use a chisel, Dremel and file to weaken the shell when its's ready to hatch, it's quite common to do that to some extend on harder eggs if the shell is to thick, the trick is doing it on the right time to early and it dies of infection and other problems to late and it dies of exhaustion, it's quite common procedure with ostrich eggs.
Though it was a shame the egg couldn't hatch, Cain would still try to find an alternative method to make it happen.
