Cuz he has Bone Weave and Blood Weave and (speculation) I think that his shadow is a larger target than his soul core which is what I think needs to get struck to do soul dmg to his main body. And also if he localizes all his attention instead of spreading it out, he's gonna be better at protecting himself.
