The sun shone orange over the many training fields littered across the village. Being THE shinobi village of the Hi No Kuni, the Land of Fire, the village had many training fields of various sizes. However, with the number of shinobi active in the village at any time, those fields were in use or reserved by others, and an academy student like Takuma couldn't get in. So, he had to use small make-shift clearings with logs made into unofficial training fields by other people with similar problems. The same people who had kicked in the log.

I read the mtl of the chapter between this and the next one, so here is a quick summary. Athena begins by telling Hera that she is the one who can best give him what he actually wants, a brilliant death, and therefore she should be the one Promise follows. Hera responds by saying that she has already boasted about Promise to all the gods and that unless he betrays her, he will always be hers. Although she can't refute that Athena would be better able to make his wish come true, she points out that Promise himself chose her from the beginning. Yes, since Promise feels Hera would be the easiest to get along with (and not a virgin goddess), he chose Hera. Athena responds saying that Hera never actually did anything for Promise so she must not care about him at all. In panic, Hera offers excuses; one of which being that she didn't know what he actually needed. Then, Athena asks Hera if she would work hard for Promise if she knew what he needed. Hera says she would. Athena states that means Hera should be willing to see her daughter Hephaestus to get her to help Promise.
