There's no way a saiyans will stunt their growth through weight training, you have to realized they are born in planet 10x times earth gravity, and the grow in spurts three times, one at 18 years old, another around 25 years old and final growth spurt at around 35 years old if I recall.
He only started trying to find the limits of his body recently since he isn't completely sure what a young Saiyan is capable of, but he knows that he doesn't want to start weight training yet because he doesn't want to stunt his growth. He's not sure if Saiyans can stunt there growth that way since he knows they're biologically different from humans.
