Behind Frost Wolf Castle, David eagerly tested his new ability.
Frost Breath!
As he activated the icy power within his Frost Giant Wolf Bloodline, an overwhelming energy began to gather in his mouth.
Hiss—
Frosty air spilled out, forming visible wisps of cold mist.
When he opened his mouth, a surge of icy breath erupted like a raging blizzard, freezing everything in its path. The frost extended over a hundred meters, encasing everything in solid ice.
Awooo—
The Snow Wolf recoiled in fear, instinctively retreating. It could feel the terrifying power of the frost and knew that if it were struck by the icy breath, it would be frozen solid in an instant.
Phew—
David exhaled, marveling at the scene before him.
Previously, his mastery of icy powers allowed him to utilize cold energy effectively, but it paled in comparison to Frost Breath. If he had this ability during his fight with the Ice Wolf Great Knight, he wouldn't have needed to use himself as bait to launch a sneak attack. A direct Frost Breath would have frozen his opponent, achieving the same result without the risk.
"This is comparable to true sorcery," David assessed. Even Amy, a natural-born ice mage, couldn't surpass his current mastery over ice.
He also sensed that Frost Breath was a scalable ability, growing stronger alongside his Frost Giant Wolf Bloodline. However, the cost of using it was significant—his current reserves of icy energy could only support two uses.
After reflecting on the new ability, David stretched his body. The physical transformation from his bloodline's breakthrough had also enhanced his knightly strength, compensating for his lack of Tier 4 Frost Wolf Potions.
Although the experience required for the next tier—50,000 points—seemed daunting, David was determined to maximize his training, especially with Leah's assistance.
---
Three days later, David left the castle, accompanied by ten knight squires and two officials.
At the castle gates, Leah, Amy, and Rena bid him farewell, praying silently for his safe return.
"Don't worry, I'll be back soon," David said, waving to them before disappearing into the distance.
Although he considered bringing Leah or Rena along, he ultimately decided against it. This operation carried some risk, and he didn't want to endanger his loved ones.
The Snow Wolf carried David swiftly into the forest, where the gray wolf pack awaited. Well-fed under Frost Wolf Ridge's care, the gray wolves were docile and ready.
When David returned to his group with the gray wolves, the knights and officials breathed sighs of relief.
With the snow rendering horses useless, they would ride the gray wolves to their destination. David himself rode the Gray Wolf King, while the others mounted individual gray wolves, and they set out for Eagle Wing Fortress.
---
Eagle Wing Fortress stood to the east of Frost Wolf Ridge, on a small plain.
The massive, ancient castle bore the scars of countless battles. Once, it had served as a frontline bastion for Frost Wolf Ridge, repelling numerous invasions.
The Eagle Wing family had been one of the Frost Wolf family's most loyal vassals. However, after the old Eagle Wing Viscount perished alongside the Frost Wolf Duke on the battlefield, his successor declared independence.
Inside the fortress's council chamber, the current Viscount of Eagle Wing discussed plans to attack Frost Wolf Ridge.
Recently, they had driven the gray wolves toward Frost Wolf Ridge, hoping the pack would weaken its defenses. Although they didn't know the current state of the ridge, they assumed that even with a Tier 3 knight guarding it, casualties were inevitable.
Their next step was to assemble their knights and, once the snow melted, launch an assault to obliterate Frost Wolf Ridge and establish themselves as the new rulers of Frost Wolf Forest.
After the meeting, the Viscount returned to the castle's dungeons.
The Eagle Wing family was known for its hawk-training expertise, and the Viscount took great pleasure in taming prisoners into obedient slaves.
He descended to the lowest level of the dungeon, where his newest target awaited.
In the dimly lit chamber, a young girl with sandy brown hair and fox ears cowered in the corner. Upon seeing the Viscount, she flinched, instinctively attempting to flee but was immediately yanked back by the chain attached to her ankle. She fell to the ground, her fox tail exposed.
The Viscount grabbed a whip from the wall and lashed it across the girl's back, leaving a bloody welt.
The fox girl whimpered, curling into a ball to endure the beating.
"Still unwilling to submit?" the Viscount sneered, a cruel smile on his face. He reveled in breaking the spirits of those with beast-like abilities, finding satisfaction in turning them into obedient tools.
As he raised his whip for another strike, an urgent horn sounded from the castle above, signaling an enemy attack.
The Viscount froze, irritation flickering across his face. Tossing the whip aside, he grabbed his coat and hurried out of the chamber to investigate.
---
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
Knights within the fortress scrambled to mobilize.
"Who would dare launch an assault during winter?" the Viscount muttered, puzzled.
Awooo—
The howls of wolves echoed throughout the fortress, sending chills down everyone's spines.
"Wolves? Inside the fortress?"
The Viscount and his knights quickly gathered, rushing outside to confront the wolf pack that had somehow infiltrated the castle.
