Bab 3: Leaving on a journey

And so, since that day, it's been 6 years, and I am about to leave the orphanage. The year is 2000, and I have just turned 11 some days ago. From my estimations, and from the data present in the books, Thalia and Luke should be meeting with little Annabeth some time soon.

Well, let's first talk of my achievements during those 6 years. After tempering my body with life force for all those years, I could easily lift over a hundred kilograms. Over an year ago, I even managed to lift two hundred kilograms without much problem once. Even so I do not know where exactly my limits lay.

My mana have also increased over ten fold over my past 5 years old self. I even managed to create a whole 57 threads of magic power! You are thinking something rude, aren't you? Give me a break! Creating new threads gets exponentialy harder every time! Bet you couldn't create even 50 of them!

Though I could not really learn any martial arts, I still managed to study a fair bit of parkour. Having freedom of movement, no matter the terrain, can be hella handy at times! That is even more so when at any given moment monsters could appear and try to have you for breakfast.

Having said so, I grabbed enough supplies to last me at least a couple of days if I am careful, and 4 bottles of water. Tied it all together using a bed sheet into an old broom, put a small dagger, I had made out of the small celestial bronze bird beak I had gotten from killing that Stymphalian Bird all those years ago, into one of my front pockets, and I was ready to go!

Making use of a small amount of mana, I try and conceal myself from the eyes of monsters. It's not perfect, but still better than nothing. I jump out of the window carrying all of my stuff, and look back, seeing the old walls of the building I had grown up in, feeling a bit nostalgic, but even more so, excited, of leaving it behind.

The sky was slowly becoming dark, as the night started falling. Some might argue that leaving in the morning would be better overall, and I won't say you are wrong, but leaving at dusk, is easier to go unnoticed.

While taking a final look, I can't help but notice an old mirror the orphanage was disposing. Seeing myself reflected in it. A teen boy, quite tall for his age, standing at over 1.6 meters tall (5' 4"), light brown hair, really short on the sides, slightly longer on top, your usual fade haircut. Light orange eyes, with a golden hue to them. A medium sized nose, and a mouth really proportional to the rest of my face. Heck! I even have dimples! Quite handsome if I might say! If I might complain about something, is my somewhat scrawny build. Don't get me wrong, I do have some muscles. But overall, all those years of not eating my fill, took their toll on me.

No more dilly dallying, let's search for those three kiddos! Hmmm... I am a kid as well, at the moment, so, search for my unfortunate peers? Sounds about right!

"Should I go right?" - I asked aloud, as if expecting something, as I turned and started going towards my right side.

I had a feeling something would go terribly wrong if I kept on going, so I just turned back and went left. Really, this intuition is pretty broken, I think I might have some talent in prophecy or something of the sort, so left it is!

I keep on walking that way, until my intuition told me something was wrong, then I started changing directions until I felt it was just right. If someone was watching me they might think I was either completely lost, or had something wrong with my head.

Worst part is that I cannot even blame them for that, as I carried my bindle on my shoulder, and kept on walking in weird directions as I really had no idea neither of where I was, nor of where I was going to. Some passersby even glared at me as if I was a hobo with nefarious intent.

And so, I kept on walking without a destination. Not going to lie, sometimes I even wondered what the hell was I even doing. My brain kept telling me this would not lead me nowhere. But I always had a feeling, deep inside me, that there was just no way I was wrong, and so I did a leap of faith. What is the worst that could happen either way? No dessert for 2 months, as a price for my failed attempt of running away? Ha! Jokes on you, but I call such a day a Tuesday!

No! I'm not crying! There is just sand inside my eyes. Damned sand! And onion ninjas! Well, that aside, soon, I had already been walking around aimlessly for over 2 hours, the sky had already darkened, and the only light on the streets were the lamp posts, and from the few cars that sometimes passed through the streets, none staying for long, neither sparing me a second glance, after all, there is nothing wrong with an eleven years old boy walking alone on a dark street, while holding a bindle. Yup! There is nothing to see here! Keep going!

Just as I was starting to lose faith in my intuition... Cough, cough! I mean, now that I was done warming up, I started to hear some strange sounds nearby. I quickly went in that direction, and soon was able to recognize they were battle sounds.

Found them! A little excited, and relieved, I soon reached a dark alley, and saw a really exciting scene.

A boy a little older than me, standing at around the same height, with sand blonde hair, a rugged green t-shirt, and beige cargo pants, stood in front of a little girl while holding a bronze shortsword with both hands, pointing it towards a large and grotesque creature, towering almost twice his height, at almost 3 meters tall (10'), rough thick green skin, covered in rashes and moss, it had no hair, and in its place, more moss-like vegetation grew. Holding a big chunk of wood that acted like a club on its right hand, that was raised above it's head, preparing to slam down into the blonde boy and the little also blonde girl behind him.

Some distance away, stood a girl around my age, with black, shoulder lenght hair, with blue streaks on the hair tips, wearing a black shirt, with a dark blue fitted jeans and combat boots, holding a spear in one hand and a shield with an ugly image to the front. Is that Aegis? She seemed somewhat desperate, aiming to throw her spear at the ugly monster.

As for the little girl, she had blonde long hair, tied into a ponytail, greyish eyes that seemed to tremble in fear of the monstruosity about to strike down on her, both hands clenched thighly onto a bronze knife.

Without even a second thought, I extended my right hand forward, my left grabbing my bindle, and I screamed.

"BREAK INTO PIECES! ELEMENTAL BURST!"

As I felt a large part of my reserves emptying out, I could see a chaotic sphere made out of mana and spirit power gather in front of my palms, and quickly fly towards the oversized green smurf abomination, coliding against its back, and exploding with a really strong blast, that disintegrated my ugly foe into golden dust before it could even register my presence.

What followed was a really awkward silence, as the three dumbfounded demigods seemingly froze in place staring wide eyed towards the place the monster I assume was a troll stood moments ago, looking alternatingly between me and the wooden club dropped onto the ground.

"Whoa..." - Said the little girl, I could only assume was Annabeth Chase, the main heroine from the first series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, seemingly amazed at my spell.

"Whoa indeed..." - I said, still perplexed by the sheer power of my spell, as I hadn't have the chance to test them all out for obvious reasons, so the strenght of most combat oriented spells was still unknown to me.

As if released from my sturpor, I took a deep breath to calm down my rapidly beating heart and gathered enough courage to awkwardly greet them. Waving at them with my right arm, I said a little stiffly.

"Haha... Hi, there! What a... beautiful night today... so many stars" - I look upwards mechanically just to not see even a single star in the sky... crap... just my life.

The little girl even giggled a little at my antics, waking the others up from their daze.
