Bab 88: Daughter Of Alysia

Ra revealed a complicated expression. At the end of the day he was a man, and as a man, to refuse the advances of one as beautiful as Masara would leave a sour taste in his mouth. Still, there was Bast to think of, he couldn't make a decision right now.

His eyes held a somewhat pleading expression "Can I think about it?" Ra was not prepared to turn down the chance to discover new ways to grow stronger, but if he were forced to give an answer now then he would have to decline.

Masara looked shocked, "You may," she scoffed,  "But I will have you know, the males here compete to have me bear a child for them," she said pointedly and her face revealed a pained expression. Ra nodded offering her a small smile, but did not answer the bait. He couldn't tell her why he had to consider his actions, lest he reveal something he shouldn't. So far he had come to the realization that this test was unlike the one Bast had experienced. He was well convinced that this place was real, it had somehow been frozen in time, repeating the same year over and over without end. He understood this, but he did not know why. Regardless, the way forward was clear, cause a significant change in the events that occured in the space of this year. Even if Masara were pregnant, if he didn't succeed in this test; It would be as if it had never happened, what's worse, she wouldn't even remember him. Thinking up to here, Ra made his decision, his thinking was too shallow before. Putting aside his selfish thoughts for now, Ra requested a meeting with the leader of the fairy race.

Masara acquiesced in silence to his entreaty, directly guiding him towards an imposing crystal tower.

Still, Ra noticed irregularities in her movements, it looked alien on her previously sublime figure.

He continued to follow her as she led him through a series of powerful wards, barriers, and detection spells.

Ra felt his understanding of magic improving by leaps and bounds as he watched her make her way toward the tower.

Masara didn't simply walk through these magic defenses, the entire way she employed various counter spells designed to answer the response of each one. Silvery magic arrays criss-crossed along the ground, weaving an intricate web that thrummed with latent energy.

Ra was similarly stunned to find that it went beyond anything he currently knew.

He sighed dejectedly, "It looks like I have no choice..." he thought to himself after making up his mind. He felt extremely weak now that he knew that the magic behind his strength could hardly qualify as so much as a substitute for the real thing. His eyes began to wander over Masara's figure, he had to concede that she was extremely beautiful, with slim curves and an attractive face. Even her movements were sensual, don't even look at how gorgeous her wings were, Ra had never considered that wings could be sexy before but it seemed that Masara was destined to change many aspects of his perception today. Having made up his mind, Ra informed her of his decision. Masara's smile returned, but she did not appear smug, instead appearing to be genuinely happy. Ra was able to breathe a sigh of relief and relax, however, a pang of guilt still stabbed at his heart. "Forget it," he thought furiously, "There are powers that shape the world that cannot escape paying the cost of doing so, if it's only this I should count myself lucky!" If he let this chance pass by what would happen if he met enemies that had grasped power greater than his in the future? He used this reasoning as he thought about his father and the tragedy that had befallen him. "I will not suffer the same fate!" he thought determinedly as they walked through the final barrier and entered the tower.

Masara led the way inside, her steps growing ever more hesitant when she abruptly turned to face him, no longer able to keep quiet, "Wait," she said suddenly, putting out a hand to stop him, "There's something I need to tell you." She said shakily.

Ra eyed her with curiosity, "And what's that?" No distrust could be heard in his tone, having been completely won over, he believed Masara to be as good a person as any. Masara hesitated, slightly thrown by this display of trust, she thought he would at least suspect a trap, "This person," she began, anxiety causing a faint modulation in her voice. "Is my father." she confessed what was on her mind, studying his expression. Seeing no change come over him she continued,

"Forget about your stories for a moment," she snapped, incorrectly guessing his thoughts, "this isn't some benevolent king of the fairies from children's tales! I..." her face flushed and her voice dropped several decibels. "I'm worried..." she admitted, "I'm worried that he'll..."

"That I'll what?" A deep, powerful voice cut her off. Masara flinched and leaped away from Ra.

A tall dark haired male suddenly materialised in the space behind Masara, "That I'll what, Masara?" he repeated with a frosty gaze.

"N-Nothing! Why are you sneaking around?!" Masara countered furiously, sticking a shaking finger in his face.

The man sighed and lifted an arm to remove the shaking finger brushing against his nose.

"And you are?" He directed this question at Ra.

Ra found this to be rude, however, and his attitude was reflected in his response.

"It is, I think, considered manners to introduce yourself when asking for one's name." He said coolly.

The man smiled, "That it is," he said quietly. "Very well, you may call me Uhryst, or Uhr, if you prefer." he said easily, "Am I right to assume that you are the young man who finally captured my Masara's heart?" he asked, referring to the closeness the two had displayed moments before.

Ra shrugged, "You are," he answered bluntly.

Masara blushed furiously at his reply, fixing her eyes on a spot on the floor and shuffled her feet nervously.

Uhr smiled again, "Then I suppose I am also correct in assuming that Masara believed that some harm may befall you should you meet me?"

"You are," Ra replied again, and Masara was no longer in a state of nervousness, instead she was now completely embarrassed.

"Yet, you still wished to meet with me?" Uhr continued amiably, he was clearly only asking questions he knew the answers to but Ra remained unphased.

"I have questions," Ra said simply.

"I'm sure," said Uhr, beaming. "Good, then, let's find ourselves a place where you can ask your questions.

"Well done, Masara!" Said Uhr approvingly, and Masara looked like she wanted to bury her head in a dark hole filled with noise sucking worms so as to never hear, see or breathe ever again.

Ra grinned mischievously and grabbed one of her hands, holding it.

Masara's face had suddenly transformed, the soft, shy look being replaced with a stunned expression; but she did not attempt to retrieve her hand, and instead, buried her face in his shoulder while punching him lightly in the chest.

"Jerk," she whispered, causing Ra to laugh softly.

"Am I?"

Masara shook her head and squeezed his hand tighter.
