Gideon woke with his head coated in sand and a throat that may only be sand. Groaning from a sore body and a lingering headache, Gideon stood up. He looked around and saw his two soldiers smirking at him.
Valiant Guard walked up to him and said, "Nice to officially meet you, my lord."
"Nice to meet you as well. Do you have a name?" Gideon asked.
"I don't, and I don't need one. I am Valiant Guard, that is all that's needed." Valiant Guard responded.
"Ok, I find it weird to call you by a long title. So I am just going to call you Vali for now. You can take it as a name or just me shortening your title for my convenience." Gideon replied. "Now, why was I sleeping with my face half in the sand?"
"Where else were you going to sleep?" Prava replied. "If you have not noticed, there is nothing but beach, plain, and mountain for options. There is not even a short bush in sight let alone a tree to make shelter."
"I think soft plain and grass would be better than sand," Gideon said.
"Except that the grass is still wet from dew whereas the sand has already dried in the morning sun. You have never camped on campaign, have you, my lord?" Prava questioned.
"No, I haven't. In fact, I have never been on any kind of military campaign before." Gideon admitted.
"Should I take care of organization and supply in the future? Or would you prefer to handle it while I take on an advisory role?" Prava questioned.
"Supply, I hadn't thought of that... You should probably take care of it. However, I need to know how much do you need to eat and drink? Does amount and type change depending on creature type? Do you even need to eat?" Gideon counter questioned, his mind running a hundred miles an hour trying to figure out if his growth plan was viable.
"Alright, I will take charge of organization," Prava responded. "Creatures will not die or weaken from fasting. However, we still do get hungry and feel the pain of starvation. So it will still affect our ability in battle."
"So, what I am hearing is that tokens do not need to ever eat as they have no sentience. Or do they still feel pain?" Gideon asked.
"No pain, no emotions, no sentience. As I said, tokens are the perfect fodder." Prava clarified.
"That will make logistics easier. And my original plan won't have to be altered much. We will just have to grit our teeth and bare it until our 'novice protection' ends. It is not worth venturing to sea and risking death for a little comfort." Gideon said.
"Is this plane so dangerous that we will die from leaving this island? And why are we safe here?" Vali asked.
"This plane is ruled by only one oppressive government, called the World Government. A vast majority of their soldiers wouldn't be able to kill you in single combat. When they learn that I can easily mass produce soldiers stronger than you, they will hunt us down and kill all of us. Currently, they outnumber us by at least a million to one. I do not want them to find us until we bridge that gap in numbers by a lot." Gideon informed her. "As for why we are safe here, a being you could consider a divine planeswalker guaranteed our safety for one week."
"And you could bridge that divide in a week?" Prava inquired.
"A week, no, but give me a month and definitely," Gideon stated.
"You will die if we do not obtain food for a month." Prava reminded Gideon.
"Maybe, but if that works as food in addition to its other effects, maybe not," Gideon said as he gestured at Elixir of Immortality. "Besides, we do not need to be stronger than the whole World Government in a week, just the forces they have on the current sea. Also, what we will be eating will essentially be blue/green sea creatures, so we will need to be strong enough to hunt them."
Gideon walked over to his library and placed his hand on it. He then noticed that he already had a basic land card in his hand, despite falling unconscious with an empty hand. He tried to put it back in his library and noticed he couldn't. Gideon frowned and thought, 'This will be troublesome.' He made his card choices and stepped away from the library.
Gideon put his hand on Mox Pearl and Mox Amber and used the mana in them to cast Pearl Medallion. Gideon then cast Honor of the Pure with the mana from the plain.
Gideon was already getting mentally exhausted as he wasn't fully recovered from yesterday. He looked at his creatures and said, "Looks like today is going to be a repeat of yesterday. At least today we will have somewhere to sleep." After saying that Gideon took his legendary land card and cast it towards the sky. Serra's Sanctum appeared floating above their heads.
Gideon tapped the card and pulled the two white mana into his body. He used the first to cast Intangible Virtue. Gideon looked over at the vampire token. It originally would have just been a 1/1 creature. However, just on his second turn, Gideon had transformed it into a 5/8 creature with vigilance. It was now something that would give an average 4 blues captain a run for their money.
"Now let's give us another conversation partner, and he might even come with his own name," Gideon said with some sarcasm.
"I very much doubt that," Vali said.
"We'll see," Gideon replied with difficulty. He then directed the last of his mana and mental energy to summon Aegis of the Gods.
He glanced at the newly formed creature, then looked at his two other soldiers and said with mirth, "I hope tomorrow I get to wake up in a bed instead of on the beach."
Gideon then faceplanted back into the same sand he woke up from only 20 minutes earlier.
