Bab 237: Trail of Smoke

No one was there to meet them in Aja Vana. The familiar hustle of business life and the scent of saffron were present, of course, and Serenica could not expect her friends to magically know what she was up to at any given moment. Still, she was a bit disappointed.

The horrible feeling that the prince had left her only threatened to grow, but a stranger put a bottle of rum in her hand and the scent of the good shepherd lingered from around the corner. She quickly got used to the new fashion of red and turquoise, for they were the colors of life and death. Blood and water, all things ended with them and began again from the union of two bloodlines joining.

She had not even realized how badly she had missed Aja Vana. In itself, the city was almost a sentient entity. When combined to the people who lived there, it was the closest thing to paradise that the healer knew.
