Chapter 52 -
"A Golden Giant is in the process of moving towards us!" the Magus on night duty exclaimed hurriedly. "The Sentinel Slate used to alert the others has been completely eaten by it too!"
"F*ck!"
After hearing these words 'Golden Giant,' Ron quickly heard the startled curses of nearby Magi. The Golden Giant was a type of elemental species, and its power was close to that of a fully converted elemental Magus. On top of that, it had its own unique racial talents, a challenge even for rank 2 Magi.
"Wasn't it said that the Golden Giants from the Golden Desert are extinct? Furthermore, it appeared conveniently in our way," the old leader clenched his jaws in a state of madness. His eyes emitted a green radiance.
"Can we avoid it for the time being?" suggested Lancey. "The Golden Desert is so vast; maybe it won't find us."
"I'm afraid not," Ron interjected. "Golden Giants have a natural instinct to chase species with high energy levels. The energy propagating from our bodies acts like a beacon for the giant's eyes. The more we move, the more likely the Golden Giant will assault us."
"What should we do then?" despair filled Lancey's face. "Unless we have a rank 2 Magus within our party, we'll all fail to escape the Golden Giant."
This party of five was only slightly stronger than a rank 1 Magus. They would even have difficulties going head-to-head with a semi-converted elemental Magus, and a fully converted elemental Golden Giant was an insurmountable obstacle.
"Perhaps we should scatter and escape in different directions," the large bloke hesitated before suggesting.
The old geezer interrupted the large bloke, "Are you people mad? If we flee in different directions, can you guarantee that you'll escape the Golden Giant? What will you do after reaching the Kary Vultures' territory?"
The Magi fell into silence as the reality of their dire situation sank in. Fleeing in different directions was a last resort, but they were not ready to accept their fate.
"Quick! Another three of my babies are dead!" the night shift Magus said with a heavier breath than before.
Leylin, with his scientific mind and a penchant for ruthless tactics, suggested a plan. "Maybe we could use the Sentinel Slate along with a rune that dissipates energy continuously to distract the Golden Giant. While it's distracted, we could do our best to restrain the energy emitted from our bodies and sneak away. If it fails, we could scatter in different directions."
The old geezer sighed and agreed, handing out vials filled with grey powders for the plan. All the Magi came together to implement disguises and distractive methods on the Sentinel Slates.
[Beep! Target Acquired. Move to 32° East for Maximized Perimeter]
Leylin listened to the instructions and signaled his subordinates to assume positions. The Magi saw Leylin's strange movements but focused on their dire situation.
[Beep! Target in attack area]
Leylin heard this and raised his hand, attacking his own subordinates. A colossal wave of flame enveloped all five Magi, severely injuring them. They had used their trump cards to survive the attack, but they were weakened and filled with fury.
At this moment, Leylin saw a golden glow in the eastern direction. Without wasting any time, Anna, Grenn, and Dexter engaged the injured Magi in close combat.
Anna, who was a master of both combat and subtlety, faced off against the large bloke, who had previously caused trouble for Leylin. Anna had chosen not to kill him, demonstrating her intelligence and pragmatism.
Leylin, from the sidelines, appreciated Anna's decision. In this world, one must prioritize goals over personal grievances. He then used a shadow-based spell to immobilize Lancey.
With the old man using his flight spell to gain an advantage and Leylin engaging in close combat, the situation escalated rapidly. Leylin's subordinates made short work of the injured Magi.
Leylin then scanned the area, and the A.I. chip warned of a high-energy life form—the Golden Giant. The Magi were on high alert.
Leylin activated his Kemoyin Scales, unleashing his full strength and clashing with the Golden Giant. The battle was fierce, and Leylin realized that he was not yet powerful enough.
Suddenly, Leylin threw a few potions to create a defensive barrier. The Golden Giant's power was overwhelming, and even Leylin's most potent attacks were not enough to defeat it.
As the battle raged on, Leylin's focus remained unwavering, and his determination to achieve immortality burned brighter than ever.
