Max and Derek got out after a good sleep. Both were in high spirits. Derek did not like to be a hermit like Max, so he did like to be around people. He wanted to drink some beer. Maybe go and meet some women and have his share of fun time. When the duo got close to the city gates, they saw a medium sized line of commoners that wanted to get into the city.
When Max saw that he understood that this was indeed a different place from the small towns and villages he encountered before. It was a city with high walls of around 7 or 8 meters in height. From outside it looked more like a fortress then a city. There were guards patrolling the area. Most of them were not on a level of knight apprentice from Max appraisal observation. Only two people were at a level one knight apprentice. One of them was instructing the other knight of something and after their talk the other knight stated to shout at the other soldiers, and they started to move quickly. Max generally did not care for them. He was not sure if he would be able to enter the city in a peaceful way. He could make it illegally, but he was not sure if it was worth it.
He then turned to Derek and said: "I don't have any identification on me. Will I be able to enter the city? If needed I can enter at night on my own. If there is some other way, I'm ready to give it a try."
Derek smiled and said: "You don't need to worry. You can just say you lost your ID card and pay a fee of ten bronze coins to enter. Later we go into the adventurer's guild and make you an identification. It will give you the possibly enter every city for free. Of course, you need to pay a fee of 50 bronze coins to create an ID at the adventurer's guild. The only thing that can be strange is your clothes. We need to buy something local to you. You attract too much attention that way."
After Derek's explanation Max relaxed. If money is the only problem, then there is no problem at all. It took the duo an hour waiting until they both got the guard's post where they allowed people to enter.
"ID." The guard said with a flat tone. He said this to all the people that entered the city, and he had no patience for some bullshit.
Derek showed him his ID and then pointed at Max and said: "My friend here lost his ID. We will go to the adventurer's guild and renew his ID right away after we enter the city."
The guard looked at the duo up and down and said after a short while: "10 bronze coins."
Max gave the guard the money and they were both allowed entry. Because they came to the city in the morning hours, they had all day for exploring and making plans.
"What do you think is the best case of action for now? How do I rent land here? Is it possible?" Max said, bombarding Derek with questions.
Derek scratched his head and said: "The best thing is to go into the adventurer's guild and make you an ID card. You can also see if something there will interest you."
"Alright, let's go to the adventurer's guild then. Lead the way." Max said.
Derek did not have any idea on where the adventurer's guild should be, so he needed to ask passers nearby to find the right way. Max did not want to take a carriage there because he wanted to see the city. There might be potential customers for his gaming club here or permanent helpers he could find. He was almost sure he will get those helpers of the lower class. He did not want to mess with nobles. The city was lively. There were many different people here. Most of them were commoners. The definition of wealth here and in the world, that Max came from were totally different things. People here were happy with being fed and healthy. They did not need any fancy stuff. Max was not sure if those people could afford his gaming club prices. After around an hour of walking the duo arrived at the adventurer's guild. It was a big building with a stream of people coming in and out. Max was impressed by this and wanted the same thing to happen to his business too. Max's club had all potential for it. When they entered the adventurer's guild people did not really pay them much attention. Max looked strange with his adidas clothes but there were a few more people wearing strange stuff, so it was fine.
"We need to get to clerk so he can make your ID. You need to say that you want to become an adventurer. The adventurer's guild is located in all the empires so it's the best type of ID. There are other organizations that give you similar options, but this should be the best one." Derek said.
Max nodded and went to line up to one of the clerks. After waiting for a short time, they arrived at the clerk's position.
"Hello, what can I help you with?" The clerk asked.
"I want to become an adventurer." Max said. He wanted to get it over with and go rent land for his gaming club. He did not want to buy land because he did not intended to stay in this town.
"Alright. Sir, do you have any specialization? A Knight? A Mage? Maybe archery or anything else? It will help you find a suitable team." The clerk said with a smile. It was something usual for her to say. She did not expect anything from this man. It was a very rare case of some newbie to really have some skills. Generally, people liked to brag, and it did not get them to any good place. A lot of those kinds of people died because of them overestimating their abilities or getting their teammates killed.
"I'm a Knight, Mage and archer." Max said.
