Bab 68: Scarlet
In a dark and ominous day, Lyra and Lilith were walking together, engaged in a deep conversation about the intricacies of Sanguine essence techniques. Lilith explained that these powerful abilities could be passed down through generations, transferred from one individual to another, or, in extremely rare cases, manifested as entirely new powers.
Lyra, intrigued by this information, asked Lilith to clarify the similarities between regular essence techniques and those wielded by the Sanguine. Lilith went on to say that while most people develop their essence techniques during their teenage years, Sanguine essence bearers possess their abilities from birth.
When Lyra questioned the reason behind this difference, Lilith admitted that she wasn't entirely sure, but mentioned that her family had once referred to it as a "curse."
As the two girls continued their discussion, they suddenly found themselves face-to-face with Scarlet and her group of vampire friends. Lyra, knowing that Lilith usually pretended she didn't exist in Scarlet's presence, signaled to her friend, expecting the same treatment as always.
However, to their surprise, Scarlet approached them directly. Lilith greeted her politely, addressing her as "Princess Scarlet," but the vampire royalty cut her off abruptly.
"Don't 'princess' me," Scarlet snapped, her eyes narrowing in disgust. "I thought you were forced to work with that human, but now I hear that you're actually friends with her. Are you trying to bring shame upon the entire Sanguine society?"
Lilith, taken aback by Scarlet's accusation, tried to defend her friendship with Lyra, stating that it was normal for her to hang out with another human and that Lyra was incredibly intelligent.
Scarlet scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain. "That's what we say, but we all know it's not true." Her words echoed in Lyra's mind, reminding her of Elias's similar sentiments.
The vampire princess then turned to Lilith, her tone becoming more forceful. "As a member of Nocturnia's royalty, I demand that you renounce your friendship with this human, effective immediately."
Lilith, feeling the pressure of Scarlet's ultimatum, hesitated. Lyra, sensing her friend's discomfort and not wanting to cause further trouble, began to excuse herself from the confrontation.
But to everyone's surprise, Lilith reached out and grasped Lyra's arm, stopping her from leaving. With a defiant look in her eyes, she turned to face Scarlet once more.
"Scarlet, Lyra is my friend, and there's nothing wrong with that," Lilith declared, her voice filled with conviction. "If you can't accept our friendship, then perhaps we were never truly friends to begin with."
Visibly upset by Lilith's words, Scarlet's essence began to flare up, crackling with an intense, foreboding energy. Her vampire companions, sensing the danger, shouted for her to calm down.
"Scarlet, you're royalty! You can't just unleash your essence technique like this; you'll get in trouble!" one of them warned.
But Scarlet, consumed by her anger, paid no heed to their concerns. "Who cares?" she snarled, raising one of her fingers as blood began to manifest around Lyra and Lilith, hardening rapidly and trapping them in place.
With a wicked smile, Scarlet reveled in her display of power. "How do you like my Sanguine essence technique? Blood Transformation. Quite impressive, don't you think?"
Lyra and Lilith, now trapped and at the mercy of Scarlet's terrifying ability, could only stare in horror as the reality of their situation began to sink in. They had no idea what the enraged vampire princess had in store for them, but one thing was certain: they were in for a fight unlike any they had ever faced before.
