Bab 4: Chapter 3
Soojung POV
My head hurts. I feel like it could explode. I really want to get this over with. I look at the watch on my wrist. Only ten minutes left but I am not quite done yet. I quickly answer the hard questions written on the paper. Now I don't really care if the answer is right or wrong. At least I answered the questions. I finished the test just on time. Now I feel relieved. I stood up from my seat and put my stationary in my pencil case and into my bag.
"Oh Soojung-ah, Annyeong. The exam was really hard, right?" I looked beside me.
"Oh! Jinyoung sunbaenim, annyeonghasaeyo" I bowed.
"No need to do that, just call me oppa. I feel awkward to be called sunbaenim" as he scratched the back of his head with a grin.
"Ah, okay"
"Let's walk together!"
"Sure"
We walked through the hallways together side by side. "I haven't seen you around much, oppa. You are almost all the time not there when my friends and your friends are hanging out together" I said.
"Ah yeah... I'm really busy. Sorry! I'll make sure to be there when you all are hanging out together next time."
"Sure thing, oppa" I smiled at him as we reached the main hall.
"Soojung-ah!" someone shouted my name. It was Taeyong.
"Hi!" I waved at him as he walked towards me.
"Hey" he smiled back.
"How was the exam?" he asked before looking to my side.
"Annyeonghaeyo sunbaenim!" he bowed to Seongwoo oppa who's standing next to me.
"Ah, don't need to be too formal with me. Just call me hyung" he said.
"Oh...okay, hyung"
"Okay, so I have to go now. Bye you guys"
"Bye oppa!" I said as I bid Seongwoo oppa goodbye.
"Oppa? When did you guys become so close?" Taeyong asked while raising his eyebrow at me. I rolled my eyes at him.
"He asked me to, okay"
"Why?"
"Oh come on. He was just being friendly, okay. Are you jealous because I can't call you oppa?" I jokingly asked.
"What? Eww. No!" he said.
"Okay. Keep lying to yourself, Taeyong-ssi"
"Let's just go?" he grabs my hand and starts walking.
"Urgh! I'm so tired and my head hurts" I said.
"Aw. Did you do well on your exam?" he asked after messing my hair.
"I don't know" I shrugged.
"So, where are we going to right now?" I asked.
"Are you hungry?" he looked at me.
"Yes, OF COURSE!" as I nod my head vigorously.
"Then let's go eat!" he said.
"Yay! Are you going to cook for me? I love your cooking!"
"No, sorry" he looks flustered after my question.
"My parents are back from their business trip so I can't bring you to my house," he said.
"Oh. It's fine. I don't want to disturb your family" I said back to him. Is he embarrassed about me? That why he doesn't want to introduce me to his parents? He also doesn't really talk about his family a lot with me.
"Soojung-ah? Hello?" Taeyong waved his hand in front of my face.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Huh? Nothing. Let's just go and eat" I said while giving him a small smile.
"Okay..." Taeyong said.
We arrived at our favorite restaurant that we always go to. Even the owner and staffs know us.
"Your usual order?" asked the waiter.
"Oh! Yes, Jungwoo! And also I want a watermelon juice. Mango for you, Taeyongie?" I asked him.
"Yeah...hey, you remembered"
"Of course, when it's you how can I forget"
"Okay, you lovebirds...your order will be served in no time"
"Thanks, Jungwoo-yah!" Taeyong said, flashing his smile.
"How was your day, Taeyong-ah?" I put my chin in my hands, focusing on him who's sitting across me. I looked at him who is staring blanking somewhere but not at me.
At this time his phone starts to ring. I looked at the caller ID and it says 'Mom'.
"Taeyong-ah, your phone..." I pointed at his phone.
"Oh! Excuse me for a while!"
"Oh, okay..." I waited for him to continue eating.
"Oh sorry, Soojung-ah," Taeyong said after sitting on his chair.
"It's okay. Let's just eat, the food is getting cold. Eat a lot, Taeyong-ah" I put some of the side dishes on his plate.
"Thanks" he gave me a small smile.
That was weird. He looks out of his usual playful character. His smile also did not reach his ears... so weird. I continued eating my food, stealing glances at Taeyong, who seems to be staring at everywhere else but me, while he ate his food.
"Taeyong-ah, is everything okay...did something happened?" I asked him.
"Nothing happened. Are you done eating?" he said.
"Yeah"
"Let's get out of here" he stood up and proceed to walk out the door. I quickly stood up and hurried towards him. He is really acting weird. It started when he received the phone call.
"So, where are we going next?" I asked him, giving him a big smile hoping to cheer him up.
"I'm sorry but I have to go. Something came up" he said looking at me.
"Okay then...go! Take care!" I said.
"Sorry, I couldn't walk you home," he said. I smiled at him before answering,
"No...I can walk home alone. Go safely" I slightly push his body.
"Bye!" I waved at him. I stared at his back, then sighed.
These days, Taeyong has been acting really weird, Always staring blankly. Distracted. I sigh again, feeling really lonely, and cold. "Why is it cold tonight?" I said to myself while walking to the bus stop. Ughh!! Every time after our date, he would send me home in his car or we ride the bus together because he loved riding the bus. He said that riding the bus was our thing. I don't know why but I feel like something bad is going to happen. I don't know what it is though!
Jieun's POV
{The next day}
I woke up like normal but I know it not like before. I checked the time and it's 6:30 am. I have a lot of time to get ready. I finished getting ready and went straight to the kitchen. I cook my own breakfast because my parents always go to work early. As I checked my phone for messages, I was surprised that I still had Mark's face as my wallpaper. It was during our graduation. Everyone was there and Mark wanted a picture together, just us two. It's a picture of Mark back hugging me while looking at each other. A tear fell without myself knowing. I quickly wipe it and finished my breakfast and went straight to the university.
{At the university}
As I reached the uni, I didn't really care much about the surroundings around me. I just walked past everyone. I walk into class still early, no one was there yet so I decided to practice instead.

After I finished dancing, I suddenly heard clapping, I turned to see Soobin. I was surprised as I thought I was the only one in the room.
"I'm sorry to scare you. I just couldn't help but be in awe by your talent" he said.
"It's okay. I thought no one was here" I told him.
"Oh, I was passing by when I heard music and I looked in to see you dancing beautifully," he said. I smiled at him and said,
"Thanks..."
I sat while waiting for the teacher. It was silent until he broke the ice. "I don't sound rude but..." I looked at him.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"I'm fine...why do you ask?"
"Well because of what happened last time and also the way you dance just now... I just thought maybe you... you were still upset..." he said. I thought to myself what he just said.
"You don't have to tell me if you don-" I cut him.
"you're right..." I said.
"What?" he said.
"I thought I was fine...I really thought that... I actually force myself to think that I was fine but I'm not. Deep, deep down I'm suffering so much" I said in a sad voice, holding a tear. He just sat there listening but once the teardrop, he hugged me. I was shocked. He pulled away.
"I'm sorry...I just couldn't help myself..." he said. I wipe my tear and smiled at him.
"It's okay...I actually really needed that... thank you, Soobin-ah" I said.
"Anytime!" he said in the sweetest smile ever.
{After class}
I was on my way home when suddenly my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and was my mom.
"Hello? Eomma?"
"Oh, Jieun-ah!"
"Nae!" I said.
"Tonight, we're going to aunt Taeyeon's house. So come home early, okay?" She said.
"Okay, eomma. I'm actually on my way home" I said.
"Good! Get ready, we'll be waiting for you!"
"Okay, bye!" "Bye!" I hang up and went home.
{At home}
I went straight to my room and got a dress for tonight. Mom seems to have placed what I was going to wear tonight...Well, I wore a navy dress and a pair of black booties because I'm not a heels girl.
"Jieun-ah?"
"Nae, Eomma?"
"Have you finish getting ready yet?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'm all done. I'll be done in a minute" I said.
"Okay" I closed all the lights and locked the doors.
{At aunt Taeyeon's house}
Everyone was here already. "Oh, you're here already!" my aunt said.
"Yeah, we could have come slightly early, if only Jieun got ready faster" my mom teased.
"Eomma!" I said.
"That's okay! You guys came right on time...come in!" my aunt said while letting us in.
"How are you, Jieun-ah," she said.
"Good, I guess... how about you, aunt Tae?" I said.
When I was small, I always called her aunt Tae and I guess as I grow that habit still continued but she doesn't seem to mind it. She was always that cool aunt!
"I've been fine! Well, you can do whatever you want, I still need to greet the others first. You still remember your way around the house right?" she said.
"That's fine, you go ahead... yeah, I think so," I said, slightly laughing.
"Okay! Bye, Jieun-ah" "Bye, aunt Tae!" I said as I waved at her.
I walked straight to the backyard into the garden. I sat at the swing there while staring at the stars and just thought there by myself. These used to my favorite place in the entire world when I'm at my aunt's house. It's quiet, beautiful, and just peaceful. I sat there and just thought about what had happened these past weeks. I looked up at the night sky and smiled and said "How did my life turn into these?" a teardrop without myself knowing. Suddenly,
"Hey..." I looked to my left. It was Taeyong.
"Hi..." I said.
"I saw your parents in the house just now..." he said.
"yeah... I just needed some time alone" I said. "Figures!" he said.
I then looked at him with a confused face. "How did you know I was here?" I asked him.
"Oh, come on Jieun-ah. You always come here whenever you visited my house. It was your favorite place when we were kids" he said.
"Oh... I didn't know you'll still remember that..." I then looked down.
"Hey... I know I haven't been a great oppa to you but I want to change that... I'm here for you if need anyone... I want you to be able to talk to me like when we were kids, okay?" he said, smiling while giving me a hug.
I hug him back and said, "Thanks, oppa"
"Anytime!"
Both of us went inside the house where everyone else was. Suddenly, aunt Tae aka Taeyong's mom announced that she wanted to make an announcement. I looked at Taeyong and saw that he looked confused.
"I know most of you have wondered why we had this gathering... well I wanted to bring families together and to also... bring someone out here but before that can I have my son, Taeyong up here?" she said. Taeyong oppa then walked to his mom.
"Taeyong-ah, I want you to meet Lucas" Then a boy about our age came out.
"Annyeonghasaeyo, I'm Lucas!" the boy said.
"Who is he?" Taeyong asked his mom.
"Taeyong...this is Lucas, your brother," aunt Tae said.
"WHAT?!" Taeyong shouted. I was eye-widened, hearing that because when we were kids we never meet him before so we were surprised.
"You never say anything about me having a brother" then Taeyong realized,
"Wait, did eomma said Lucas was his name?" he asked again to his mom.
"Yeah..."
"So there was the guy that eomma kept talking about. The one that I should be more of. The guy that kept on coming up in our arguments" Taeyong shouted.
"Lee Taeyong! That is enough, young man!" aunt Tae shouted. Everyone was surprised and have no idea about the situation.
"Well then...I'm sorry to ruin your gathering everyone... I'll just see myself out then!" he said as he walks to the entrance door.
"Lee Taeyong, get back here right now!" aunt Tae said but Taeyong oppa didn't listen.
I quickly grab my coat and went to my aunt.
"Don't worry, aunt Tae... I'll try and talk to him" I said.
"Thank you, Jieun-ah" I ran out of the house and saw Taeyong walking at the road going god knows where. I try catching up to him. Once I got caught up to him, I grab his arm.
"Oppa?" I said. Then he stopped and removed my hand from his arm in a slightly rude manner. Then he starts to walk again. I then grab his arm again.
"I'm not in the mood to talk, Jieun-ah," he said. I turned him to face me.
"Are you okay?" I asked. "I don't know, after that, I have no idea how I'm going to face my mom. She never told me about this before" he was about to cry so I pulled him into a hug. He then started to cry.
"I know it's hard... take it from me... but I promise you everything will be okay... you just need to get to know him first," I said while patting the back. I pulled away from the hug.
"I don't know..." he said while looking down.
"Look...I'll help you, okay?" I said.
"Really? But you, yourself are having a hard time as well" he said.
"I know, we'll help each other and besides, I'll get through it but now I need to help my cousin fix his family," I said while cupping his face and wiping his tears.
"Gomowa, Jieun-ah," he said smiling while ruffling my hair.
"You're welcome," I said.
We decided to go somewhere else and just cool off and hang for a bit. I texted his mom and told her that he's fine now and also I texted my mom telling her that I might be home late tonight. Is Taeyong oppa going to be really fine? Is he going to tell Soojung unnie about this? I feel like something bad is about to happen...
Eun Na's POV
{The next day}
"It's not a difficult task, so hand it to me immediately before the day after tomorrow," Mr. Lee said to the whole class.
Right after he left the hall, "Ughhh!" all the students groaned.
'Yeah, right...not a difficult task' I thought to myself as I sighed.
I stayed a little longer to finish all the assignments given. When I was about done, I realized some of the other students started to fill up the hall. I quickly packed my stuff and went to the library. On my way to the library, I saw my friends, sitting on the benches in the garden. I rushed over to them with a big smile but as I got there it seems as if they were not in the mood.
"Are you guys okay? Everyone seems to be in the blue" I asked.
"Yeah.. fine" Soojung unnie answered.
"Are you done with your classes, Eun Na-ah?" Jaehyun oppa asked.
"Yeah but I still need to go to the library and finish some of the assignments that my professor gave," I said. He nodded.
"Busy lady" Winwin teased.
"Want me to accompany you?" he asked.
"If you want to!" I said.
"Let's go," he said.
"Bye, guys...oh, and btw, are you going to be having dinner at the new restaurant near Hongdae with me? I've been craving western food lately!" I said.
"Fine, but go finish your assignments first, alright?" Soojung unnie said.
"Nae, unnie. We'll be back later with you guys!" I said.
While walking with Winwin to the library, I asked him a question that I wasn't sure to ask before with the others.
"Where's Jieun unnie and Taeyong oppa? Something not right when Johnny oppa is quiet" I asked him.
"Complicated," he said.
"What!? What happened?" I asked again, with a worried face.
"We don't really know what exactly what went down but Soojung noona asked Taeyong hyung if he was alright but he ignored her and when she asked again, he yelled at her and asked Soojung noona to stop asking and also not to care about it" he explained.
"What! Was she okay?" I asked.
"Yeah. She wasn't mad with him. She was just taken aback, so she asked him whether it was wrong for her to worry about him and also told him that he had been acting weird lately. Taeyong hyung didn't say a word and just walked away then..."
"Then what?" I said, slightly shouting.
"Jieun ran after him, and it left Soojung unnie question but you know how girls' heart is like. She kinda cried a little" he said.
"She must be so shocked because Taeyong oppa never yelled at her like that before. Did something else happened?" I said.
"No...nothing," he said.
"Win-ah. Let's go back! I'm starting to get worried about Soojung unnie" I said.
"What about your assignment?"
"I'm almost done anyways, I could just finish it tonight," I said.
I ran out of the building and went to where they were sitting. "Unnie!" I said but before she could say anything, I quickly pulled her into a hug.
"You're not okay, unnie"
"Winwin told you?" she said.
"Yes, he did" I pulled away from the hug and I asked,
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know either, Eun Na!!"
"You must be worried, have you try to call him?" I asked.
"No, I didn't dare to try"
"Okay, I'll call Jieun unnie then," I said.
-phone conversation-
"Unnie, where are you? We're going to have dinner together at the new western restaurant near Hongdae. Are you coming?" I asked.
"I'm at a cafe near the university"
"Oh, so?"
"Well, we'll be there. Just send me the location"
"Alright, see you unnie!" I said.
"See you too bye"
"Bye!"
-end of the conversation-
"So, do you guys want to make a move now?"
"Yeah, sure. I'll drive" Jaehyun oppa said.
"Right, I'll take my car as well," said Johnny oppa.
I sent the location of the restaurant to Jieun unnie as soon as we arrived. The atmosphere in the car was so gloomy as I expected. We arrive at the restaurant and as usual, we take the biggest table in every restaurant we go to. After we ordered our food and waited for a while, Jieun unnie and Taeyong oppa came. There was an empty seat beside Soojung unnie but Taeyong oppa took the seat next to Johnny oppa. Jaehyun oppa stood up and sat next to Soojung unnie, so Jieun unnie took his seat.
"So what are you guys going to eat? We've already ordered ours" I asked both of them.
"I'm not eating" Taeyong oppa said. Jieun unnie took a quick look at the menu and called for the waiter.
"I'll have two of this, one of this, and one of this," She said.
"Is that all?" the waiter said.
"Yes, that's all. Thank you" Jieun unnie said while giving the menu back to the menu.
"Wow, unnie. You must be pretty hungry" I said.
"It's not all for me. It's for him too" she said while pointing at Taeyong oppa.
"Yah! I said I'm not hungry!" Taeyong oppa said at Jieun unnie.
Jieun unnie rolled her eyes while saying, "Whatever". Then I realized Jaehyun oppa was trying to take Soojung unnie's attention away from them.
"Johnny oppa, why are you so quiet? Why does everyone seems to be under the weather and I don't like it? It's making me said too" I said.
I wished Jisung was here. He was the sunshine of the group. Jisung had to go to Japan right before our sophomore year of high school and we lost contact. I miss him so much right now!!!
"Eun Na, I'm not sad" Winwin whispered and smiled.
"Aw, that's my boy" I smiled and pinched his cheeks.
One by one our food came and guess what! It was the very first we ate in silence. I really don't know anymore. After eating, we exited the restaurant and of course, something happened.
"Yah Taeyong! I warned you before, didn't I! To not play with Soojung's feelings" Jaehyun oppa said while grabbing Taeyong's collar.
"If you have a problem then just talk to her!" Jaehyun oppa yelled.
"It's my relationship! It's none of your business!" Taeyong said as he pushed Jaehyun's hand off his collar. Jaehyun oppa lifted his fist to punch Taeyong oppa and he did. Now the both of them are literally beating each other to a plop. Everyone has no idea what to do. Soojung unnie knows she can't interfere now as she and Taeyong oppa are not in good places. So instead, Jieun unnie stepped in. In situations like this, Jieun unnie knows what to do, actually better than Soojung unnie. But this fight was something she can't stop.
Jieun unnie tried to stop them but got pushed back until she fell on her back, quite roughly to the ground. Everyone was surprised. Johnny oppa was the first to get to her. Then Soojung unnie and me. She wasn't badly hurt but her falling stopped the both of them.
"Guys! Stop this right now!" Johnny oppa shouted. Both rushed to Jieun unnie's side to apologize and help her up but she pushed both of their hands.
"We're sorry, Jieun-ah. We didn't know it leads up to you getting hurt" Jaehyun oppa said as he saw Jieun unnie's bruises. Taeyong nodded in agreement.
"If me getting hurt means I get both of your attention then I'm fine," Jieun unnie said as she stood up holding onto Johnny oppa for support. Jieun unnie then looked at both of them.
"Look, I know Soojung unnie can't step up to say anything right now because this includes her. She cares deeply for both of you and what you're doing right now is just plain immature. Fighting in public is not going to help the situation. I don't want to see my best friend getting hurt here and even if that means I have to be the bigger person" Jieun unnie said.
I look over at Soojung unnie to see that she was uncomfortable with the atmosphere and situation that is going on right now. I know Jieun unnie knew that too.
"Oppa... please... stop it, okay? I'll handle Taeyong oppa, just bring Soojung unnie back home safely for me, okay?" Jieun unnie slightly whispering to Jaehyun oppa. Everyone knows that besides Soojung unnie's pleading, Jaehyun couldn't resist Jieun unnie's too. So, Jaehyun oppa just nodded and took Soojung unnie home.
"And you, I'm bringing you home," Jieun unnie said to Taeyong oppa, who hasn't budged from his position.
"Oppa, please take both of them home. I'll be with Taeyong oppa. Don't worry, I'll be fine" Jieun unnie said to Johnny oppa.
"Okay...Fine but you have to tell me what the hell is happening here? And also what's up with the both of you?" Johnny oppa said to Jieun unnie. Jieun unnie was hesitated to say.
"Dude? We use to say everything to each other!" he said back.
"I know...but this is something I can't tell you yet. I haven't got the rights. You have to understand that. Please don't hate me?" Jieun unnie said.
"I understand and of course I don't hate you," Johnny oppa said to Jieun unnie while hugging her.
"Drive safe! And if you do anything to her Taeyong, I swear to god...I promise you, you wouldn't see the light of day" Johnny oppa said. Taeyong just gave a slight smirk and left with Jieun unnie.
We bet both of them goodbye and then Johnny oppa took both me and Winwin home. I swear as the day goes by, our friend group is getting weirder and more complicated. It feels as if we are drifting apart here. I really hope Soojung unnie and Taeyong oppa will solve their complicated problem so that all of us can go back to normal!!!
