Bab 28: Jealous Kitten

Devon's gaze followed Leticia as she stormed out of the room, a smirk playing on his lips. Her parting words, "I hate you," only amused him. Veronika, the lady, began to massage his shoulders, but he cut her off, his voice firm. "All I need is blood, Veronika. Nothing more."

She flushed, bowing her head. "Of course, my Lord."

With practiced ease, she walked to the table where a small knife laid and she sliced her wrist, filling the glass cup with her blood. Devon's eyes narrowed as he took the offering, his lips curling into a faint smirk. "Not bad," he said and gulped down the contents.

As he handed her back the cup, he grasped her wounded hand, and it began to glow with a soft, red light. Veronika's eyes slitted shut, her face averted from the intensity of the glow.

When she opened them again, the cut was gone, healed by Devon. "You may leave," he dismissed her, his thoughts already drifting to Leticia and Luis, his brow furrowed in disapproval.

Leticia's eyes fluttered open, greeted by a faint headache. She sat up, memories of the previous night flooding back almost immediately. She'd spent a nice time with Luis though. The guy was just too sweet.

After freshening up, she donned a simple green dress, swept her hair into a bun, and headed out. "If I see Devon, I won't talk to him...or will I?" she muttered to herself.

En route to the dining hall, she ran into Cecil, who enveloped her in a tight hug. "Hey, cute!" he beamed.

Leticia gasped, playfully dramatic. "Easy, Cecil! Your hugs are lethal!" Cecil pouted, his blue eyes sparkling. "I missed you so much!"

Leticia smiled, her heart warming. "You're something else, Cecil."

He grinned. "Your smiles are my weakness. I could melt into them." Chuckling, he added, "Though Devon might kill me for it."

Leticia frowned, her expression softening. "He's not gonna."

Cecil laughed. "You never know!" As they parted ways, Leticia continued to the dining hall, her heart feeling a little lighter.

Leticia sat alone at breakfast, lost in thought. Afterward, accompanied by her loyal maid Karina, she delved into books on vampires and mythics in the library.

As the day went on, her fatigue grew, and she retired to her room, her mind still lingering on Devon. She's not seen him at all! "Why am I even thinking about him?" she wondered, loosening her hair from its bun.

As she sat on her vanity chair, she began to brush her hair, staring at her own reflection in the mirror. "Maybe he's gotten married to the lady that came to see him," she pouted to herself.

Suddenly, she heard his voice behind her. "Who's getting married?" She flinched, not expecting him, or anyone for that matter.

Despite having the urge to jump into his arms and grin "I missed you," she only continued to brush her hair. If only she could see him through the mirror, she would have given him a deserving glare but as a vampire, he had no reflection.

He smirked a bit, trying to collect the brush from her. "Let me help with that."

She replied, her voice sharp, "I do not need your help."

He said, raising a brow at her sharp reply. Of course he'd expected such reaction still he added, "But all I want to do is help..."

She raised a sarcastic brow. "Aw, too bad I don't need it."

Devon chuckled and snatched the brush anyway, immediately beginning to comb through her soft blonde hair. He did it so gently and expertly, making Leticia wonder if he's ever done this for anyone else. His numerous girlfriends? He doesn't seem like the type to care for a lady like this. His touch sent shivers down her spine, and she couldn't help but relax into his gentle touches.

"So, wanna talk about the reason you're boiling? " Devon asked, his voice sudden and teasing. Leticia could bet he had that creepy smirk on his face.

Leticia's gaze dropped to her hands and she said, "I'm not boiling or whatever"

Devon's eyes narrowed. "Don't lie to me. You won't even talk nicely. Did I wrong you?" His tone was now soft, but persistent.

Leticia's cheeks flushed. Of course, he wouldn't think sleeping with someone else was a big deal. "No, you didn't," she replied, her voice flat.

"That's a lie." He stated, his voice firm.

Leticia ignored him, but he wouldn't let up. "Leticia..." he called, his voice low and commanding. When she didn't respond, he spun her chair around, and she found herself face to face with him. A gasp escaped her lips. "Are you trying to kill me?!"

Devon chuckled, using a finger to brush off the strands of her on her face, "A mythic can't die from a little turning. Now, tell me. Are you not mad at all? Look at me and say it if you want me to believe you."

Leticia grumbled, her eyes avoiding his. "Nothing much. Just because you told me to get out. I just didn't like it."

Devon's brow rose, his eyes knowing. "Just that?"

Leticia's gaze met his, her opal eyes flashing defiantly. "Just that."

"Why'd you say you hated me then?" Devon asked, his eyes piercing. "Was it because I told you to get out? Or because I was with another woman?" He added slowly, his gaze never leaving hers.

Leticia's cheeks flushed again, her eyes darting away. "W-Why would I be angry because you were with someone else? I don't care." She stammered, her voice barely convincing.

"You have every right to be. You're mine, and I'm yours, so you have every right to be jealous." He teased, his voice low and playful.

Leticia's glare was fierce, her blush deepening. "I was NOT jealous!" She protested, her voice rising.

"Yeah, you weren't." He nodded, his smile turned sarcastic.

Leticia groaned, exasperated. "Ugh, seriously..."

But before she could continue, Devon's lips claimed hers, his kiss swift and unexpected. Leticia's eyes widened, her heart racing as she felt his familiarly cold lips on hers.

Although taken aback by the unexpected kiss, she didn't mind it. However, the memory of the lady kissing him flashed through her mind, and she pushed him away, her face scrunched up in distaste. "Don't."

"What do you mean?" He asked, his thick brows furrowing.

Leticia's response was firm, "Just don't."

Devon's smile returned, his dark red eyes glinting with amusement. "Jealous Kitten," he teased.

Leticia's face flushed, her voice rising. "I am not jealous, ugh!"

As she sat in silence, Devon resumed brushing her hair, his hand occasionally caressing her nape. Leticia couldn't help but relax into his touch, her eyes fixed on her own reflection in the mirror. If only she could stare at him too.

After a moment, she spoke up, "You seem used to this."

Devon's reply was soft, "I am. I used to help her with her hair."

Leticia's brow rose, "Who?" she asked, her tone sharper than intended. Her cheeks flushed slightly at the slip.

"Jacintha." He simply said.

Leticia's eyes widened, realizing Jacinta was Devon's first love. "Oh," she murmured, her voice barely audible."Where is she now?"

Devon's replies were brief and stiff, his eyes clouding over. "Gone."

Leticia didn't press the issue, sensing a potentially heartbroken relationship. Instead, she smiled brightly. "Okay, so where were you? You didn't eat breakfast."

Devon's expression softened slightly. "I went to work." Wow. So he had work? Well for him to be this wealthy and own this kind of mansion, he definitely had a stable job. Maybe he's a CEO or something. Leticia thought leisurely.

Leticia's smile turned sly. "I was bored, though."

He chuckled almost silently, "Missed me?" and he earned a nonchalant shrug from her, "Maybe. You could have been with anyone else though."

Devon's smirk returned, his brow raised. "You're still jealous."

Leticia rolled her eyes, but Devon leaned in, his hot breath grazing her ear. "Should I help with that?" he whispered, sending shivers down her spine.

"How?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Devon kissed her ear, his lips gentle. "By telling the truth."

Leticia's curiosity piqued, she watched herself in the mirror. It was terrifying and exciting at the same time. She couldn't see him yet she could feel every single touch, "What truth?"

Devon held her face and made her turn to look at him, his eyes locking onto hers. "I didn't sleep with her, Leticia. I only took her blood."

Leticia's annoyance suddenly vanished, replaced by surprise. "Why?"

Devon shrugged, his creepy smile returning. "Okay, okay. But it still doesn't matter..."

Devon's smile grew, his eyes sparkling. "Nah, it does. Now that we've cleared that, may I?"

Before Leticia could respond, Devon claimed her lips in a gentle kiss, his touch sending her heart racing.

Leticia sighed, surrendering to the kiss and returning it with equal passion. Devon deepened the kiss, his cold hand cradling her cheek, his fingers stroking her temple. He trailed kisses down her jaw, neck, and collar, sending shivers down her spine.

Leticia's eyes fluttered closed, her lips parted, her breathing shallow. "You learn so quickly," He whispered against her neck, his voice husky. "Already kissing me like an expert."

Leticia could feel him smirk and red filled her face. She bit her lip as he looked up at her, his eyes gleaming with pride.

But before fore she could respond, he chuckled and added, "Come on, your father is here."

Leticia's face lit up, her eyes sparkling. "Really?! Why didn't you tell me earlier?!" She had missed her father dearly.

Devon's naughty smirk returned, his eyes teasing. "You were all over me,"

Leticia frowned, her lips pouting. "I was not!" she protested.

Devon's smile was gentle, his eyes soft. "Okay. If you say so," he conceded, tucking a strand of golden hair behind her ear.

Leticia's pout turned into a giggle, and she grasped his hand, her eyes shining with excitement. "Let's go!"

Devon's gaze dropped to their entwined hands and he didn't know when a tiny smile crept up to his face.
