Bab 224: Fantastic Four vs Doom

"Reed, say it loud! Are you sure your data was correct?" The electricity absorbed from the city center was released through his body, illuminating half a block like daylight amidst streaks of electric light, and Doom's inner rage escalated his momentum to a new peak.
Reed was ashamed, but he understood Doom's resentment; it was understandable since he had played a part in the downfall of Doom's multi-billion dollar corporation. A few harsh questions were completely within reason.
However, The Thing did not appreciate Doom's tone. If Doom were as honest as he claimed, an apology from the four of them might have been possible. But most of Doom's focus seemed to be on his personal vendetta with Reed involving Susan.
He thought Doom was insincere and a petty hypocrite.
The Thing lifted a car from the roadside that had already been turned to scrap metal by plasma, no longer of any use as a transportation tool. With a powerful grip, he crushed the car wreck into a big metal ball and, with a whoosh, hurled it at Doom.
"Reed, we must stop him before he causes more damage!" Knowing his old friend's nature, The Thing could only try to redirect his focus to the immediate threat.
Taking a deep breath, Mister Fantastic finally found some fighting spirit. In his view, the personal grudge he had against Doom should not involve innocent bystanders.
"Get out of here, now!" Mister Fantastic urged the people who were not afraid of death and were still clicking photos to leave, while his arms stretched out ten meters to reach a roadside fire hydrant. Seeing Doom covered in electric light, he thought it might cool him down.
He tugged twice, but the hydrant didn't budge. Reed urgently called for Ben.
The Thing understood his intent but had only taken a few steps when Doom's electric arcs caught up with him.
With his rock-like body, he could withstand most of the electrical damage. Ignoring the current, he staggered towards the fire hydrant. Their intent was too obvious, and without much thought, Doom released two bolts of electricity, which, instead of discharging, stretched and elongated in the air, eventually turning into two electric whips.
The somewhat sluggish Thing got his feet tangled by the whips, and the current numbed him, making him feel weak and unsteady.
Struggling fiercely, The Thing began to discharge electricity erratically. A curly-haired woman was hit in the calf and fell screaming to the curb.
The remaining three were alarmed. Reed, insulated from the current, ran to help The Thing free himself from the electric whips, while Invisible Woman, Susan, and Human Torch, Johnny, began to help the injured and evacuate the civilians.
The Thing quickly freed himself from the whips, but the evacuation of the civilians was too slow.
Many were reluctant to leave their belongings, blaming the Fantastic Four for the disaster when the Invisible Woman tried to persuade them.
Strictly speaking, they weren't wrong. Now, the increasingly impatient Human Torch had no patience for this task and returned to the frontline to fight Doom.
Intense flames smashed toward Doom, who cunningly used bystanders and buildings to shield himself from the high heat. Fireballs splattered everywhere, scorching the roads till they looked like they were coated with tar.
"Boy, you're too impulsive!" Doom looked down at Human Torch from a high position, feigning an attack on a fleeing white young man nearby. Johnny hastily flew over to intercept, but Doom had anticipated his move. His hands shimmered with electric light, instinctively releasing two more electric whips again without any teacher.
In a flash, two silvery electric whips shot out from his wrists, one ensnaring Human Torch's left foot, the other wrapping around his neck. Doom activated his powers, intent on strangling Human Torch.
Seeing her brother in danger, Susan, the Invisible Woman, could no longer concern herself with civilians. She muttered a curse under her breath and, with a spread of her hands, reversed the application of her telekinetic shield. A milky-white translucent shield appeared out of nowhere, restricting Doom's movements, cutting off the energy supply to his electric whips, and rescuing the Human Torch.
"Susan, are you opposing me too?" Doom's eyes showed through the iron mask, filled with deep emotion. Susan was silent, which chilled his heart as he pounded the telekinetic barrier with what seemed like metallic arms.
The force field bought the Fantastic Four a precious ten seconds to regroup and reengage Doom in battle.
As the fight prolonged, the Fantastic Four slowly found some synergy, and with most of the civilians having fled, they could finally go all out.
But Doom still had the upper hand, controlling the two electric whips and lashing fiercely at the four heroes.
Daisy arrived on the scene but didn't join the battle immediately; she observed from atop a mechanized soldier.
She found it somewhat absurd. Was Ivan Vanko's influence lingering even from beyond the grave? It had been seven days since his death, and now Doom was wielding electric whips as if guided by some mysterious force?
The Fantastic Four were slightly at a disadvantage, but it wasn't critical; they could still hold on for a long time.
The two sides seemed like mortal enemies, yet the relationship between Reed and Doom was extremely nuanced.
Many knew of Reed and Susan's son, Franklin Richards, the Omega-level mutant who could manipulate time and causality, capable of creating universes. However, very few focused on Reed's daughter.
Even fewer knew the origin of her name: Valeria Richards.
Valeria isn't an American name; it originates from Eastern Europe, specifically Latveria, Doom's homeland, and was the name of his first love.
Isn't it interesting? Reed named his daughter after his rival's first love—what does that imply?
In Daisy's view, Mr. Reed seemed to be taking a leaf out of the book of a famous martial hero, "I robbed your wife, and now I offer my daughter to you?" From foes to family...
Regardless of what the situation was, their deep connection was why Daisy was content to watch from the sidelines.
She watched from a distance, not joining the battle immediately, while the combat had already escalated intensely.
Doom, wearing a metal mask and growing impatient, gathered a massive amount of electricity in his hands, unleashing it like silver dragons toward The Thing.
After being blocked twice by Reed's body and Susan's energy shield, something seemed to trigger a distant memory in Doom. Briefly subdued, his attacks suddenly intensified.
Black mist swirled around his body, and his dark green robe fluttered without wind.
The once bright silver currents now appeared as if stained with thick ink, maintaining their penetrative power but now also possessing corrosive and deadly characteristics.
Daisy blinked in surprise. Although different in nature, she didn't think she was mistaken. She felt a familiarity; it resembled the power Storm used in her attacks. The black energy was magical!
In the midst of battle, Doom had upgraded himself!
