Chapter Twenty-Four: Seeds of Comfort

I woke from a dead sleep with a jolt. My sweat-dampened hair had glued to my face and for a moment it felt as if I had dreamed Fate and the shifter world up as an escape. It wasn’t until I saw movement in the shadows that reality hit.
“You didn’t strike me as someone who watched from the shadows,” I said with no humor in my voice.
I knew who it was. Goliath had this energy about him that filled the room as if there were ten of him present. It was how he caught my attention in town that day I went to pick out my gala dress.
He let out an embarrassed chuckle, and I questioned once more what version of reality I had woken into.
“I’m sorry, I heard you crying…” His voice trailed off as if even he struggled to believe that.
I wouldn’t have if I didn’t have a chill on my skin as the sweat cooled to air temperature.
“Do you want to keep these dreams too?” I knew my words were immature, but I didn’t care.
