Lapo could use it if the Guelph supporter tried anything shady with them, whereas Conradin needed it to have a strong supporter in Florence, which, along with Pisa, could persuade the other communes in the region not to oppose Conradin in the future. Both had mutual interests that did not conflict, and as such, both welcomed this alliance with open arms. It was clear to everyone, however, that this alliance had a junior and an older brother, as the military power of the two was vastly different.
