<Elsi's POV>
Today, I'd rather spend time at Lea's house than stare at myself. Jillian, Isabelle, and Hayley had other things to do. Hmm, I'm happy to have a lot of time just with Lea. To be honest, among my other friends, Lea is the most understanding and can be negotiated with. Even though Jillian mostly listens to my complaints, she can't come up with a solution like Lea.
Lea's house is on Astoria Rd. Not too far from my house. That's why I prefer to visit Lea's house because it is very close to my house than the others.
My car pulled up next to the Montana's house. My lips pressed tightly together to form a straight line, taking a look at Lea's house. From inside the house, there were shouts or long fights between Lea and her stepmother. My eyes narrowed slightly when I saw Lea, who screamed in annoyance, cursing, bursting out of the house.
"I don't want to and forever won't!" she shouted. "Why are you forcing me to do this and that?! You are nothing to me! You're a bitch who stole someone's husband!!!"
"Watch your mouth, Lea! After your father died, I took care of you! If I don't care about you anymore, I will leave you, kick you out of this house, and let you starve to death!"
"Then why don't you do it, huh?! I didn't even expect to live with you! You pawned me, almost sold me, to make ends meet for yourself! Why don't you just work as an entertainer or a striptease dancer?!"
"Lea!"
I was shocked to hear about their fight. It seemed that Lea didn't notice my presence, so she just walked out of her house. I drove my car slowly after Lea who walked furiously. Her hands brushed her cheeks which were wet with tears as my car pulled up beside her.
"Lea," I called her. "Come in."
She stared at me for a while before finally getting into my car. Her face is wrinkled, her hair is messy, and I can't bear to see her current state. Sometimes I feel sorry for Lea who is faced with the barbaric behavior of her stepmother every day.
"What now?" I asked on the way. I don't know where we're headed. The important thing is to make Lea calm herself first.
"She told me to accept a rich businessman's proposal." Her head hung low.
"Did you refuse?"
"Of course. I don't want to be the fifth wife."
My lips shut for a moment. There was silence between us along the way. Looks like Lea needs some time to relax. I just took her around, enjoying the Kensington afternoon air.
The trees along the road that stood tall became another alternative for Lea to distract her. If Lea doesn't want to go home, I'm willing to accommodate her. I just hope Dad doesn't throw her away. Every time, Dad blamed my friends for being a bad influence on me. He always thought that my drastic change into a wild girl was caused by my friends. Well in fact, it's not like that.
Me, Jillian, Isabelle, Hayley, and Lea, were brought together because we had the same fate. If Lea had a problem with her stepmother, it's different with Isabelle, who was upset because she didn't get much time with her super busy parents. And Hayley often felt let down by her parents who were also busy with their work. Every time Hayley got a good grade, no one cared about it. To the point that she stopped studying, felt useless being smart if her parents didn't care about her, and spent time having fun. It's really unfortunate. Jillian had another story. She's crazier than us. She was raised by her aunt who spent most of her time drinking alcohol. You could say Jillian was an orphan who lacked of love. Maybe that's why she became how she is now.
"May I stop here first? I want to buy canned drinks at the vending machine," asked Lea.
I nodded at her request. I stopped my car next to the sidewalk. With a small smile, Lea got out of my car and jogged to a vending machine located not far from a shop.
Waiting for Lea, I took out a cigarette and lighter. Just a few minutes of waiting while smoking a cigarette, I was surprised by the presence of two people in a restaurant. My eyes widen to find Cleopatra and Jace sitting across from each other, chatting together. Since when did they get that close?! Even Cleo didn't say anything about her closeness to Jace. Maybe when I got home I'll ask Cleopatra. More accurately, forcing her to stay away from Jace who had a criminal record. I didn't want Cleo anywhere near a murderer.
