Bab 40: The Day 10

Max pressed Matthew's bite scar, slowly burning against his skin. Over and over, he groaned in pain. With the last bit of strength, he crept across the floor to reach for his cell phone on the control room table.

Once he managed to reach his cellphone, Max immediately pressed the number one button. With a slightly hoarse voice, Max spoke to someone who answered his phone. "Help me."

After that, Max almost lost consciousness. The cell phone he was holding slipped from his hands, and his body slumped on the floor. Slowly but surely, he felt the cold creeping from his toes. The cold continued to creep up his body until he didn't notice that his body was starting to tremble. Max felt he might die soon.

While Max's body was shaking from the cold, Max could barely see a few people entering the control room. The people in full military uniforms immediately approached him, who was lying on the floor with a body covered in blood.

"Check all the security cameras. Look for them!" one of several uniformed men approached Max.

The two men in uniform immediately obeyed their superior's orders. The two of them immediately checked all the surveillance cameras in the laboratory. Meanwhile, their superiors called for medical personnel to help Max directly.

Matthew suddenly stopped in his tracks as they were almost at the door leading to the parking area under the building. Lily and Ryan suddenly stopped their steps.

"What's the matter, Matt?" Ryan asked.

Matthew didn't answer and just signaled Lily and Ryan to walk towards the door immediately. Lily and Ryan finally overtook Matthew and walked briskly toward the door. Meanwhile, Matthew was still standing in the hallway. He seemed to be waiting for something to come to him.

"Hurry up and catch up with us, Matt," Lily said as she continued on her way.

Matthew nodded slowly. Once Lily left with Ryan, Matthew changed utterly. His pupils disappeared, and his sharp teeth came out ultimately. Matthew transformed into a blood-sucking monster.

Matthew immediately ran over to the people about to come to him as soon as he heard footsteps approaching him. Matthew lunged at them one by one and, without hesitation, sucked all of their blood.

Meanwhile, Lily and Ryan, who had made it to the parking lot, stopped when they heard gunshots inside the laboratory building.

"We can't leave Matthew," Lily said.

"He can take care of himself," Ryan said.

"We don't know yet whether Matthew can be bulletproof or not. We only know that he has extraordinary powers," said Lily.

Ryan replied to Lily's words. "I'm sure he can take care of himself. Do you notice? There were no more gunshots. Matthew must have managed to finish them all off."

Matthew pulled his gnashing teeth at one of the soldiers who had come to take him. Matthew's bite tore the soldier's neck, and the soldier's fresh blood spurted on Matthew's face.

Matthew stood wiping his mouth and stared at the blood spurting out of the soldier. This time he realized when he was killing the soldiers.

"I won't let you touch Lily or me," said Matthew.

The soldier in front of him looked at Matthew with a face full of fear. Matthew snorted softly, then immediately walked away, leaving the bodies of the soldiers lying on the floor.

Matthew focused his attention on Lily's voice talking to Ryan. He then moved quickly to catch up with Lily and Ryan, who were already in the parking lot.

The military team leader who led the mission to take Matthew and Lily to a nearby military facility stared at the monitor in disbelief. What he had just seen was entirely beyond his comprehension. His assigned troops to chase Matthew and Lily have now turned into corpses.

"What now, Captain?" asked the soldier watching the surveillance cameras. He also witnessed when Matthew massacred his teammates.

The captain was silent as he clenched his fists. He growled and banged on the panel used to set up the surveillance cameras. "SHIIT!"

"We still have bravo outside," said the soldier watching the surveillance camera.

"Tell bravo to be on standby outside. Don't let the object out of this building. We have to take our target no matter what," the captain said to his men.

The soldier watching the surveillance camera ordered the soldiers guarding outside the building to be on alert. He also tells his teammates to arrest Matthew and Lily no matter what.

Lily took a deep breath as soon as she saw Matthew coming towards the car she was riding in. She and Ryan had been waiting for Matthew in the car. And as soon as Matthew got into the car, Ryan immediately started the car engine.

"I can't believe I'm doing this," Ryan said as he drove Professor Graff's Ford Mustang out of the lab's basement.

Ryan then turned to Lily, who was sitting next to him. "Your father won't be mad if we use the car, will he?"

"This will be one of my legacies. So now this car is mine," said Lily.

"Nice car. Hopefully, this car is also bulletproof," said Matthew from the back seat.

Lily and Ryan suddenly turned to Matthew.

"What do you mean?" Ryan asked.

Matthew looked straight at Ryan. "Watch in front of you, man. There will be a fully armed army in front of you. I hope you are a good driver."

Ryan's eyes widened when he saw several people lined up at the exit of the parking area. "Looks like we can't get through here."

Ryan immediately turned the car's steering wheel he was driving to get away from the parking area exit.

"Lily, watch out!" Matthew called out.

Lily immediately lowered her head. Meanwhile, Ryan was trying to find a way out of the parking area. "Isn't there another exit?"

"Let me give you the exit," said Matthew.

Lily immediately turned to Matthew, who was in the back seat. "You want to face them alone?"

"I've managed to face the ones inside alone. I think I can deal with what's on the outside, too," Matthew replied.

Ryan glanced at Lily. "He's right."

Matthew then spoke to Ryan. "Take me as close to the exit as possible. I will face them, and you must take Lily as far away from this place as possible."

"No! How did you find me if I went too far?" Lily asked Matthew.

Matthew looked at Lily with a small smile. "I can find you. I need you to be safe, and we'll meet again."

Lily looked back at Matthew. Her twenty years of waiting for Matthew ended in chaos. "You have to find me."

Matthew nodded his head.

"I'm close," Ryan called out.

Matthew looked back at Lily with a smile. He then turned to Ryan. "Stop the car and get Lily out of this mess."
