Bab 24: Butterfly 6
"Thank you. That was one of the best meat pies I've ever eaten," said Ryan as he and Lily were about to say goodbye to Mrs. Thomas.
Mrs. Thomas smiled at Ryan's words. "You always manage to make me blush." She then glanced at Lily standing next to Ryan and smiled at the two. "You two look good together."
Lily looked directly at Mrs. Thomas. She then glanced at Ryan standing next to her. Lily's cheeks suddenly blush in response to Mrs. Thomas's words.
"You know Ryan, you were the first guy Lily introduced to me," said Mrs. Thomas.
Ryan's eyes narrowed. "Really? I do not know that."
Mrs. Thomas nodded her head. Then she hugged Lily. "This girl has never been seen with a man. The only guy she always talks about is Matthew."
Ryan frowned and looked at Lily. "You never told me you had a boyfriend?"
"It's not like that," answered Lily.
"Then what is that?" Ryan asked.
"Looks like someone's getting jealous," teased Mrs. Thomas while glancing at Ryan.
"He never told me about a guy named Matthew," Ryan said.
Lily took a deep breath. "We'd better go home now," she said to Mrs. Thomas.
"No, you have to tell me about the guy first," Ryan interrupted.
Lily immediately turned her attention to Ryan. "I'll tell you. But it's almost late. Mrs. Thomas must be tired from cooking for us."
"When are you going to tell me?" Ryan asked.
"I'll tell you on the way home. We'll also stop by the lab to deliver this meat pie for my father," Lily replied.
Ryan was silent for a moment. "Okay."
Lily smiled as she looked at Ryan. After that, she turned his attention back to Mrs. Thomas. "Then I'm going home. My father must have been waiting for this meat pie."
Mrs. Thomas nodded her head while stroking Lily's head. She sighed and smiled at Lily. "Be careful on the way. You should smile a lot like today Lily."
Lily smiled again after hearing Mrs. Thomas. She then kissed Mrs. Thomas and hugged him. After that, she and Ryan immediately left Mrs. Thomas's house.

As soon as the car Ryan was driving had left Mrs. Thomas's house, Ryan immediately charged Lily's words. "So, who's Matthew?"
Lily laughed softly as soon as she heard Ryan's question. "You seem very curious about Matthew."
Ryan snorted softly. Then he glanced at Lily. "I wanted to know what kind of man might be my competitor for you."
Lily burst out laughing after listening to Ryan's reasons for being curious about Matthew.
"Do you take that as a joke? I'm serious, Lily," Ryan said.
"Oops, sorry," said Lily. She then tried to control her laughter before she started telling Ryan about Matthew.
Lily took a deep breath and let it out slowly. After that, she smiled and looked at Ryan. He is concentrating on the road in front of them. "You remember my question about love at first sight when we first met?"
Ryan turned his attention briefly to Lily. "Of course, I remember that. You made me fall in love at that moment."
"Matthew was my first love. I fell in love with him from the first time I saw him," Lily said.
"Oh, God. My rival turned out to be tougher than I thought," Ryan said. He then glanced back at Lily. "Where is he now?"
"In the laboratory," Lily answered.
Ryan looked at Lily while frowning. "Is he human?"
Lily laughed. "Of course, he's human. You think he's one of the rabbits in the lab?"
"Is he also a Researcher like you?"
Lily immediately shook her head.
"Then? Why is he in the laboratory?" Ryan asked.
Lily took a deep breath. "He's the bear I'm trying to wake up."
"So the bear you always talk about is Matthew?"
"The first time I saw him was when I was five years old. His body was frozen in the laboratory. My father and his team put him in a deep sleep phase because of rare cancer he had," said Lily.
"So he's still a child?"
Lily shook her head. "His age is the same as my current age when he was accepted to my father's facility."
"What are you doing in the lab now to revive Matthew?"
Lily nodded quickly. "From then on, my only wish was to wake Matthew from his long slumber and find a way to treat rare cancer he had."
Ryan took a deep breath. "No wonder. You are happy when you tell me about your serum that you have successfully tested."
Lily chuckled softly. "If my serum works, not only Matthew can survive. Many people could have been saved from cancer. Including Matthew's mother, that is recently diagnosed with the same disease."
Ryan suddenly grabbed Lily's hand. "You're so great, Lily."
Lily looked directly at Ryan. "Thank you. I appreciate it."
"Though it looks like I've got a tough competition right now," Ryan teased as he let go of Lily's hand.
Lily laughed softly at Ryan's words.
"But, that's not a problem for me. I'm still proud of what you did to Matthew and the possibility that your serum could save so many lives," Ryan said.
This time it was Lily who held Ryan's hand. "Thank you, Ryan. I also hope that what I do can help many people."
"You can do it. I'm sure of that," Ryan said.
Lily blushed after hearing what Ryan said. "I will try my best."
Ryan smiled as he glanced at Lily. "I am lucky to have known a woman like you. Then, will you forget about me if Matthew fortunately awakened?"
"Of course not. I will not forget you. Honestly, I don't even know what I'll do if Matthew is successfully revived," answered Lily.
"You have to say, 'Matthew, you managed to come back to life because of my hard work. If you do anything bad to me, I'll freeze you again.' After that, you have to kiss him and see his reaction," Ryan said.
Both Ryan and Lily both laughed after Ryan finished his sentence. "I wouldn't do that," Lily said.
"Of course, you have to. You're the princess who woke the prince. It's only natural for the prince to accept the kiss you gave, "said Ryan.
Lily shook her head quickly. "No. I really won't do what you said."
Ryan chuckled. "You have to do it."
"I won't," Lily said, laughing softly.
The two of them laughed together again. Ryan teases Lily by suggesting things Lily should do after Matthew awakens.
