“How do we get around them?” Edith asked under her breath. “Why are they bothering us?”
Caden clutched her hand.
“Oh, we are here to enjoy the opera just like you,” Ansgar said slowly.
Caden immediately stood in front of Edith, causing the other vampire to laugh.
“You aren’t trying to protect her, are you? That doesn’t seem to be one of your strengths.”
“Don’t start,” Caden glared. “Not here.”
Ansgar’s eyes lost their laughter, “I’m not a fool, Caden.”
“A fool? Perhaps not,” Miles came up behind Caden. “But the years haven’t made you wiser.”
Caden held up a hand to stop his friend from continuing, and gently led Edith into the building.
“You should have let me grab his face,” Edith muttered squeezing Caden’s hand.
Caden looked at his friends and raised his eyebrows, “Oh, that would have gone over well.”
Asher patted Edith’s shoulder, “You don’t even know how to control the Sanctus Lux yet.”
