Kara's Pov:
Aaron Malcolm: The devil.
I grew up as a normal girl in Calton city, America, with 'normal' parents and siblings. My mother was a teacher at a middle school a few blocks away from my own, and my father was in the army. I had 9 siblings including myself- Billy, Alura, Melody, Mike, Caitlin, Kara(me), Jason, Serena, and Elena.
My older siblings were almost never around. My parents always told me that they were studying abroad, so I often only talked to them through facetime and they barely had any time to visit us. Melody, who was my favorite sister, got really I'll a few months back and couldn't even talk on facetime.. or at least that's what my parents told me.
All was well and somewhat normal, until two days after my sister, Serena's 10th birthday when I was 12, I overheard my parents talking to her in low voices in their room. I didn't mean to, but ended up eavesdropping anyway. "--report from Cait, and we now know your powers!" I heard my mom say that with excitement "You, like your eldest sister, Alura, have the power to slow down time! Isn't that amazing?" and my Serena replied in the same tone "Jace and I were right then! I just saw you say all that in slow motion! It's so cool"
Then my dad spoke in a serious tone: "I'm sure it's cool, hon, but you know that you have to keep this a secret from all your friends and your sister, Kara"
"yea, yea, I know. She has powers but we're not allowed to tell her because they are very dangerous and it may cost us our lives"
I was just standing there, with my eyes open wide, confused as to what she meant. I knew strange stuff had happened around me but them saying, I have powers? That just sounded like some stupid skit.
"I still don't understand everything,though.. Jace told me that all my older siblings were born on Volta and that you guys and our grandparents, all grew up there, so why exactly did you bring us here?" Serena had asked this question and it made me even more confused. After a few seconds' silence, my mom finally decided to speak up.
"She's old enough to know this, isn't she?" "You're right, honey" my dad replied. Then my mom explained everything, "The silvers come from the royal blood of Volta and the bloodline of Raya, and it has become a of must for all of us to get our blood checked at the age of 6 months.. Anyways, it was done with all your older siblings and their blood and dna were normal. However, when Kara's blood was checked, the royal physician revealed that she had the fury of the phoenix inside her."
"What's that?" Serena asked curiously. "It's known to be the strongest fire power ever given to anyone. And it is very rare. Kara is the first female in all of Zynph to be born with this power after the first holder of the fury: Raya, the black Phoenix, who lived over a thousand years ago." "That's so cool!! But why'd we have to leave?" Serena asked again.
"I'm getting there. Be patient... Your father and I were obviously worried that this particular ability of hers to be able to control fire, would make some bad people want to take advantage of her and hurt not only her but also the rest of the family. It is also written in the oldest books, that the holder of the fury of the phoenix is meant to lead the kingdom of Volta. We didn't want her to be burdened by all that at such a young age."
Then my dad started speaking "We
stayed there for about a year after she was born, until something we had been dreading, actually happened. Someone broke into the nursery on Kara's first birthday, and took a sample of Kara's blood and did some sort of spell. We heard her crying so we ran to the nursery, but the woman who had broken in, had already left."
"And after this, we just got so scared that something might happen to us, as well. My father, your grandpa, suggested that we should keep Kara away from all that. So we came here, to Earth, and Jason was born just a few days after." my mom finished.
"Oh~ That sucks though, doesn't it. But, why do you keep her away from this?"
"We think if she loses control, she could hurt all of us. You see, The fury may be very strong but it is also very dangerous if not controlled. And none of us, except Melody, knows how to help her with this, so we won't be able do anything." My dad explained.
"Do you know when Mel will recover from her illness?" Serena asked worryingly. "No sweetie. But she's strong, she'll be fine."
My heart was beating so fast and I felt like crying. I was so angry with my parents that they had kept all this from me and told my younger siblings, but at the same time I understood them. I felt suffocated so I just ran out of the house, crying.
The next few chapters are basically just flashbacks and Kara's past. They are important to understand her future.
