Bab 3: Kryptonians & 132 Chromosome Pairs

Interestingly, some of the remains don't show any abnormalities, having only 23 pairs of chromosomes like typical humans. This suggests that the extra pair of chromosomes appeared later, possibly through a field of biology known as bioengineering.

In simpler terms, it's artificial synthesis, but not everyone is a suitable candidate for this technology. Experiments have shown that this process is akin to the Super Soldier Serum in the Marvel universe.

The Super Soldier Serum, or SSS program, famously transformed Captain America from a frail individual into a muscular powerhouse. Dr. Abraham Erskine once remarked that injecting this substance made good people better and bad people worse.

Likewise, the biological modification project in Doom has similar effects. Besides granting people immense strength and potential, it can also unleash untold disasters and awaken violent tendencies buried deep within.

However, none of this seems related to Kryptonians. If any connection exists, it might be on the level of chromosomes. Humans possess 23 pairs, superhumans have 24 pairs, but Kryptonians have a staggering 132 pairs of chromosomes.

Even though Varion belongs to the Kryptonian scientist category, with a wealth of science and technology knowledge at his disposal, he finds this discovery perplexing. What kind of race could possess such characteristics, and what does it signify?

It represents boundless potential and an extraordinary source of power.

"Perhaps that's why the Kryptonians had to be destroyed; they were too powerful."

By continually exposing oneself to Fixed Star radiation, storing energy, and letting time transform the body, one can keep growing stronger. It's like being part of a perfect evolutionary species.

"This race seems to have it easy... winning effortlessly!"

Varion patted his backside, stood up, and headed to his laboratory. Yes, he has a laboratory—the standard for the second generation.

Kryptonians don't acquire knowledge through individual learning but rather through direct implantation. Everything is injected into your brain, and the rest is your personal journey of understanding and absorption.

No more tedious studying and practice. With the intelligence of Kryptonians, using any knowledge is as simple as thinking about it. Essentially, you have that knowledge in your brain.

For Varion, the primary task now is to integrate the knowledge he possesses. These insights may become the most critical assets for him in the future. A race that has thrived for hundreds of thousands of years has accumulated a vast reservoir of knowledge.

Therefore, not everyone can receive the entire knowledge infusion at once. They choose to receive it in batches. Even among Kryptonians, nobody dares to attempt the entire knowledge transfer in one go. Doing so would be seen as reckless, not brave.

Converting the knowledge stored in a normal human brain into text and pictures would typically amount to a few hundred kilobytes at most. For exceptionally knowledgeable individuals, it might reach the size of a few megabytes, but anyone possessing knowledge in the gigabyte range would be considered truly exceptional and a treasure to humanity.

Mousse watched curiously as his young master engaged in these seemingly mundane experiments. It was a departure from Varion's earlier ambitions of joining the Academy of Sciences.

"Master, what are you up to?"

"Oh... just conducting some experiments to enrich my knowledge. By the way, have there been any recent developments at the Academy of Sciences?"

Mousse pondered for a moment before responding, "There is one matter of note – I've heard that Jor-El, the Chief Scientific Officer, hasn't been frequenting the Academy of Sciences lately. I'm not sure if that's of any significance."

Varion's head snapped up. "When did this start?"

"About a week ago, young master. Is something amiss?"

Varion shook his head, leaving Mousse puzzled. This wasn't typical behavior for his young master. Although the relationship between the Hale family and the El family was strained, it didn't prevent Varion from admiring Jor-El, Krypton's Chief Scientist.

However, Varion's thoughts were in turmoil. There was only one reason for Jor-El to exhibit such a change – his wife must be pregnant, which meant they had nearly nine months left before Krypton's impending destruction.

Krypton was on the brink of catastrophe, and Varion couldn't wait any longer.

From that point onward, Varion bid farewell to leisure and playtime, immersing himself in his laboratory work. He even received several knowledge injections during this period.

Varion's adoptive father observed his son's transformation from outside the lab and whispered to Mousse, "Has he been like this lately?"

"Yes, sir," Mousse replied.

Abel nodded, unable to fathom why Varion had undergone this transformation. Despite the Hale family's low status in Krypton, Varion had never faced hardship. He could choose his path in life.

Perhaps his son had a natural inclination for science, given that he was modeled after Kryptonian scientists. After all, Jor-El had followed a similar path to become Krypton's Chief Scientist. Having a Chief Scientist in the Hale family would be quite an achievement.

It should be noted that Varion wasn't accurately described as a scientist template. "Civilian" was a more fitting term, while the military families represented another category. Kryptonians followed different paths based on the knowledge implanted in them, the focus of their efforts, and their ultimate choices.

It wasn't a matter of personal refinement but rather the inherent differences between military and civilian families, leading to varying preferences and directions.

"Make sure he gets enough rest. I have some business in the capital; I'll be on my way."

"Of course, sir," Mousse replied as he watched Abel depart and then turned his gaze back to Varion in the laboratory.

Mousse sensed that his young master had truly undergone a profound transformation, likely linked to something he was unaware of. Recently, Varion had been inquiring about the location of the Code of Life and how to access it.

Notably, Krypton did not have the death penalty on the books, but confinement to the Shadow Zone was considered acceptable. The Code of Life was a clear taboo, and even the Zar family, let alone the Elders, would find it challenging to tamper with such a sensitive matter.
