~ The Duke's Castle

4.30pm

The woman delicately held the Duke's overcoat in her arms. "Your Grace, how was your journey?"

Alexander walked from the castle's lawn to the main entrance, finding the question unnecessary as he made his way up the mosaic floors of the castle's grand entrance.

Thankfully, there were no more interruptions from her until he reached the long, winding staircase that led to the upper floors.

As Alexander's right foot landed on the luxuriously carpeted steps, his hand gripping the intricately carved handrail, Sarah rushed up to him. "The kitchen reports that you skipped breakfast this morning. Would you like your favorite Boudreaux blend or scotch, Your Grace?"

"Climate not right for strong drink."

"What about some rolls or cookies? The peaches and plums are ripe, and with your permission, I could have the seeds crushed to make a juice that would go well with the biscuits. Wouldn't you like that, Your Grace?"
