After returning to the Gryffindor common room, Albert made himself a cup of milk tea. He once again asked his roommate if they wanted to go to the library together to work on their Charms class homework. Once again, he was turned down. So, he packed his bag and bid farewell to the three of them, heading towards the library.
During class time, the library was not crowded. Albert walked into the library and immediately spotted Shanna flipping through books for references. He walked over to her, gently pulled out a chair, and quietly said, "I hope I'm not late?"
Albert was right on time; it was exactly 2 o'clock.
"No, the homework for the Charms class is a bit difficult, and I haven't found much useful information," Shanna replied. She had several books next to her, as she had arrived half an hour early, but still hadn't found much helpful material.
Albert glanced through the thick books on the table and shook his head. He directly called Shanna to join him in the section C, where they could find the needed books on the fifth row of shelves.
By the way, the book they borrowed last time, "Selected Spells of the 19th Century," hadn't been returned yet.
However, Albert was almost finished reading that book. Indeed, he should finish it quickly so that they could return it. After all, the due date for the book was approaching.
Albert pulled out "Spell Achievements" that he found from the shelf and handed it to Shanna. The young witch looked at the book he handed her with astonishment.
Soon, Albert also found the "Selected Spells of the 18th Century" they were looking for and returned to the desk with Shanna.
"How did you know that the information we needed was in these books?" Shanna asked, surprised to find the relevant material in the two books Albert chose. She then felt a bit frustrated about her own efforts in searching for information.
"This book, 'Spell Achievements,' is actually quite useful, especially for the written exam," Albert explained. "The Lumos spell was invented in the 18th century, so we should be able to find related information in the 'Selected Spells of the 18th Century.'"
"Why didn't you go to Ravenclaw if you're so smart?" Shanna asked, puzzled.
"Who knows?" Albert shrugged and whispered, "Maybe the Sorting Hat thought I would be better off in Gryffindor."
Once they found the necessary information, the rest was relatively simple – they just had to copy down the appropriate sentences. For example, "The Lumos spell was invented in the 18th century (1772) by a witch named Levina Monksdown. She used to be a Silence Enforcer at the Ministry of Magic."
The process of discovering the Lumos spell for wand illumination: One day, Levina was searching for her lost quill in a dusty corner when she accidentally lit up the tip of her wand. Her colleagues were astonished by this spell and believed it to be useful, so they recorded it...
Blah blah blah, just some text to quote.
Albert suddenly felt a bit nostalgic for the copy and paste function on the computer and wondered if magic could achieve something similar.
If that were possible, writing papers would be much easier in the future.
English:
"Sigh!"
Albert let out a sigh and snapped back to reality, realizing that he had made a mistake in writing a word. It bothered him a little.
He crossed out the incorrect word, dipped his quill into the ink bottle, and continued writing. The content of the paper was quite simple: copying some excerpts from "Spell Achievements" and "Selected Spells of the 18th Century," and including some of the problems he encountered while practicing the Lumos spell and the solutions he found.
Albert noticed that after writing all this, a large portion of the parchment had been filled, and Shanna, who was still flipping through books next to him, looked stunned.
"What's wrong?" Albert asked, puzzled.
"You..." Shanna pointed at the parchment.
"Do you want to take a look?" Albert didn't mind and handed the parchment to Shanna. Meanwhile, he continued flipping through the content about the Extinguishing Charm, which wasn't in "Selected Spells of the 18th Century." However, Albert still found relevant records in "Spell Achievements" and continued copying.
Shanna looked at her own article, which was not very long, and then looked at Albert's well-organized paper. Suddenly, she felt a strong sense of frustration.
So, this is how you can write a paper!
Shanna knew that most of the content in Albert's paper was copied from books, but so what?
Albert said it's called referencing and quotation.
If she tried to come up with everything on her own, she probably wouldn't be able to produce a three-inch paper.
After an hour and a half, Albert finished writing the paper on wand illumination and the Extinguishing Charm.
Although half of the paper was copied, there were still many things based on the difficulties Albert encountered and the solutions he found while studying spells. The final conclusion was Albert's in-depth exploration of the incantations, such as the ability to make the light from one end of the wand detach from the wand and store the Lumos spell's light. Or the peculiar idea of using the Extinguishing Charm to control the surrounding lights.
And then... combining the two to create a lamp extinguisher.
No, it's a concept for a magical lamp. If the Extinguishing Charm and the Lumos spell could be used to create a magical lamp that mimics the effect of a Muggle electric light, wizards would no longer need to use oil lamps!
These were the final thoughts left, still just ideas. Albert wrote them in the paper, actually hoping to get some help from Professor Flitwick to refine them.
After all, Professor Flitwick was an expert in spells, and perhaps these clever ideas would pique his interest.
The task of the magical lamp was not yet complete!
"How about it?" After the ink on the parchment dried, Albert used a Copying Charm to make a copy and handed it to Shanna. He pointed out certain areas and told her to write based on her own experiences. As for the information that everyone could find, they naturally inserted it into the paper as an introduction and enhancement, making it more impressive.
"I thought it would take a long time!" Shanna looked at her parchment and said with emotion.
Now she understood why Albert said that writing this paper was to deepen his understanding of the Lumos spell and the Extinguishing Charm.
Indeed, that was exactly the case.
From searching for information, to transcribing sentences from books, to completing the paper. At least, she knew when the incantation was invented, who the inventor was, the impact it had after its invention, who made improvements and innovations on this incantation, the problems she encountered while practicing the spell and how to solve them, her own prospects and outlook on the Lumos spell...
Anyway, once this pile of things was written, it would definitely exceed three inches. She had no worries about not reaching that length.
Moreover, the most important thing was that if one didn't understand the Lumos spell and the Extinguishing Charm, they wouldn't be able to write all this.
