Bab 56: Chapter 56: Two Feet

Originally, Fred and George, who wanted to make a last-ditch effort, were unable to master the Disillusionment Charm in just one night. Of course, what made them completely give up was Albert's statement: "Felch might not allow you to use magic anyway."

The next day, during the Charms class, Professor Flitwick checked everyone's progress in practicing the spells. Compared to the Gryffindor students, there were only a few Hufflepuffs who successfully mastered the Lumos spell.

Professor Flitwick took five minutes to review the previous lesson and then began teaching the counter-spell for the Lumos spell, the Nox spell.

"The Nox spell can be used not only to extinguish the Lumos spell on a wand, but also to extinguish ordinary light sources." Professor Flitwick pointed to a candle on the table and gently tapped it with his wand. "Nox."

The candle flame went out as if someone had pinched it with their hand.

"As you can see, the incantation for the Nox spell is 'Nox,' and it can be used to extinguish burning flames as well."

"Lumos Solem," Professor Flitwick finished reciting the incantation, and a pale light illuminated the tip of his wand. "Nox." After reciting the spell once again, the light on the wand disappeared.

After Professor Flitwick finished explaining the content about the Nox spell in the classroom, he gave the remaining time for everyone to practice the spell.

"Lumos Solem... Nox." Albert tried several times and finally succeeded. To further verify the effectiveness of the spell, he also conjured a candle and lit it, then attempted to extinguish the flame on the candle.

"I did it too!" Li Jordan was in a good mood. After practicing the spell more than ten times, he successfully extinguished the light on his wand and then followed Albert to extinguish the candle flame.

According to Professor Flitwick's description, extinguishing a blazing fire is more difficult than extinguishing the Lumos spell.

"I'm so frustrated!" Fred was still struggling to master the Lumos spell, and not just him, but some other students in the class as well.

In the end, only three people succeeded in extinguishing the light on their wands, and Hufflepuff's Diggory was one of them.

Before the end of the Charms class, Professor Flitwick assigned a new homework assignment to everyone, to write a research paper on the Lumos spell and the Nox spell, at least two feet in length, due before the next Monday's class.

George muttered, "Two feet long? Professor Flitwick must be crazy!"

For young wizards who have basically never written a paper, or should I say, hardly touched a quill, writing a two-foot long parchment is a challenging task. It's not easy to come up with enough words to fill two feet of parchment.

"Actually, this kind of research paper is quite simple," Albert glanced at George, with a rare expression of something peculiar. "You just need to copy the origins of the Lumos and Nox spells, write about the difficulties you encountered while learning the Lumos spell, find some relevant knowledge in the library to fill it up, and finally write a conclusion or something. Two feet should be enough."

Actually, Albert was well aware that Professor Flitwick didn't expect the first homework assignment from the new students to be written very well.

In essence, this paper was just to help everyone understand the Lumos and Nox spells better and deepen their understanding and application of the incantations.

In his past life, Albert had written many similar things in college. Although it had been a long time, he still had some understanding of it.

"Is it really that simple?" Li Jordan asked incredulously.

"That simple?" Alya stared at the other person, sarcastically saying, "Once you start writing, you'll realize it's not that simple. But thanks to Albert, I know what to write on that two-foot long parchment now."

Halfway through their discussion about the homework assignment for the Charms class, a discordant voice suddenly interrupted.

"Are you sure what he said is correct?" a Hufflepuff student asked in a strange tone.

"At least, it sounds more reliable, doesn't it..." Fred and George looked at each other and walked over to the Hufflepuff student, each reaching out and putting an arm around him. "Perhaps Albert has already received a little hint from Professor Flitwick."

"Let go of me." The Hufflepuff student struggled hard, but couldn't break free from the grip of the Weasley twins. They firmly held onto him.

"Oh well, don't be nervous." Fred let go of him and patted his shoulder twice, watching as he quickly ran back to the Hufflepuff group, unable to help but laugh smugly.

"Stop it." Diggory scolded the twins with a stern look.

"We didn't do anything, Diggory. We were just having a simple conversation with him," one twin said, still with an arm around the other's shoulder. "Right, we didn't do anything. Who knows why he suddenly got so nervous."

"Alright, let go of me." Diggory also looked helpless. He knew, of course, that the twins' friendly way of communicating had no ill intentions towards him, but others might not see it that way.

"He looks scared because of you guys," Li Jordan couldn't help but comment.

"Don't talk nonsense. We didn't scare him. Be careful, we'll accuse you of slander," Fred and George wore expressions of innocence, as if saying they didn't do anything and it was all his own fear.

In fact, they really didn't do anything.

Albert couldn't help but be amused; he suddenly felt like laughing. However, he believed that the twins' actions weren't really wrong. After all, they hadn't done anything, and it was just a misunderstanding on the other person's part.

"Speaking of which, when will we have our Flying class?" Angelina suddenly asked.

"Not quite sure. It's said that Gryffindor first-years have it on Thursday afternoons. When it's time for the Flying class, the notice board in the common room will inform us," Fred pondered for a moment and added, "Charlie is recruiting reserve players lately. If you're interested in Quidditch, you can give it a try. Reserve players have the chance to handle a broomstick, but becoming an official player depends on one's own abilities."

"When?" Angelina's eyes lit up as she asked.

"Today afternoon. You can go to the Quidditch pitch and talk to Charlie," George replied without hesitation.

"You're not seriously considering joining the Quidditch team, are you?" Alya looked at her roommate in astonishment.

"Well, I want to give it a try."

"We still have Transfiguration class later," muttered Hannah in a low voice. "Hopefully, Professor McGonagall won't assign us any homework."

However, everyone was destined to be disappointed.

Even if Professor McGonagall didn't give them any homework, they still had to continue practicing Transfiguration.

But Professor McGonagall did mention that she would be checking their progress in turning matchsticks into needles next week. If they still couldn't make the matchsticks change, someone was bound to be in trouble.
