"How about using that method?" Albert nodded towards the crowd over there.
"What kind of method is that?" Fred grumbled. He had hoped that Albert would come up with a reliable suggestion.
"Do you mean the drawer...?" George remembered the highly dangerous drawer he saw last time when Filch brought him into his office. He murmured, "But who will draw the attention?"
"What are you talking about?" Fred was a bit confused, not quite understanding what these two were discussing.
"The drawer, the drawer! Confiscated supplies, highly dangerous!" George reminded him.
"That's a good idea." Fred's eyes lit up. He had been curious about what was inside that drawer.
"You need to learn the Unlocking Spell first," Albert reminded them.
"How about you go, and we'll help you distract Filch's attention?" The twins looked at Albert and proposed.
Albert glanced at the two and asked, "You still need to learn the Unlocking Spell."
"We'll learn it. When do we start?"
"Let's go back to the dormitory. There's a drawer there for you to practice on."
Not long after, Lee Jordan came back and brought some news with him.
William, the young daredevil who did the deed, unsurprisingly didn't escape detention. The punishment was... cleaning bedpans.
"Well, it seems like you won't even have bedpans to clean overnight." Albert shrugged, picked up his backpack, and returned to the Gryffindor dormitory.
As Lee Jordan watched the Weasley twins flipping through their spell books as soon as they entered the dormitory, he was a bit puzzled. Were these still the twin brothers he knew?
"Alahomora." George took out his wand and tried to unlock the locked drawer but failed.
"Focus your attention and pay attention to the wand movements," Albert sat on a chair, watching the two practicing the spell, and then glanced at Lee Jordan beside him.
"What's gotten into them?" Lee Jordan asked in a low voice.
"They need to use this spell, so they started practicing," Albert replied vaguely. "Anyway, we'll eventually need to practice the Unlocking Spell in Charms class. Why not compare who can master it faster?"
"You're impressive." Lee Jordan also took out his wand and joined the practice of the Unlocking Spell, preparing to see who could master it faster among the three of them.
Albert shared the problems he encountered when practicing the Unlocking Spell and some points to pay attention to.
However, with their current level, it was unlikely that they would successfully unlock the drawer for now.
Albert picked up "Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection" and continued reading the parts he hadn't read before.
"Giving up?" Albert asked without lifting his head.
"Temporarily giving up. It's impossible to succeed anyway," Lee Jordan sighed. It was simply impossible to succeed!
After practicing for half an hour, the lock remained motionless, which was quite frustrating.
"I practiced for a long time before I succeeded," Albert reminded them. "Remember the incantation, wand movements, and focus your attention. Don't hesitate when casting the spell."
"Forget it, I'll just preview the afternoon class," Lee Jordan felt a bit exhausted. The twins also felt like giving up, but considering their plan, they persevered. Albert was right—they would eventually have to practice, so if they didn't practice now, they would have to do it later.
"Have you finished reading this book?"
"Not yet. I flipped through some parts. It's all about introducing dark creatures and how to defend against them," Albert continued flipping through the book. "In fact, for a Muggle-born like me, it's a way to understand how many dangerous creatures there are in the magical world and how to be cautious and protect oneself."
In layman's terms, it's like learning how to escape, prevent, or seek help when encountering a robber, rather than being taught how to defeat the robber.
So, what this book teaches is actually quite basic, but it's undeniably useful. That's why Albert said it's an introductory book.
If they spent the whole semester studying this stuff, it's no wonder the Weasley twins' defense items are selling so well. After finishing this book, they probably wouldn't even know how to use a Shield Charm properly. At least, as far as Albert has seen so far, there hasn't been any mention of the Shield Charm in the book.
After practicing for an entire afternoon, the twins still hadn't successfully learned the Unlocking Spell.
"It's normal," Albert wasn't surprised.
"When do you think we'll be able to master this spell?" Fred seemed a bit frustrated.
"Practice for a day or two!" Albert replied without hesitation. "Any spell requires magical power as a foundation, and since you both hardly know any spells, you're not as proficient in that aspect as I am. So... it will be a bit difficult for you to learn. When I first started learning magic, I encountered similar situations. But as I mastered more spells, the speed of learning magic increased."
The three of them exchanged glances, unsure of what to say. Albert's words sounded reasonable, but for some reason, they felt like he was pulling their leg.
Perhaps the Unlocking Spell is a bit challenging for you, especially since you haven't even fully mastered the Lumos spell.
Albert muttered, inadvertently stabbing them in their hearts.
"Ah, I didn't expect magic to be so hard to learn," George sighed lightly, leaning back on the soft bed.
"Do you ever think about it? In the book 'Standard Spells: Beginner Level,' it only records a few spells, and we're supposed to study that book for a whole year. That alone shows how difficult it is to learn a spell," Albert couldn't help but roll his eyes. In reality, it was true.
"By that logic, you've probably already learned all the spells in 'Standard Spells: Beginner Level'?" Fred suddenly opened his mouth, realizing the significant gap between them.
"More or less!" Albert thought for a moment and said, "But what we learn is only the most basic level of spellcasting."
"What do you mean by the most basic level of spellcasting?" The three of them were a bit puzzled.
"It means playing around with spells," Albert thought for a moment, lit up his wand, and waved it in front of them. "This is the most ordinary usage of the Lumos spell. But have you ever thought about making the light brighter, or making it detach from the wand and float in mid-air according to your will, or even float away into the distance?"
"Is that really possible?"
"I believe Professor Flitwick could definitely do it," Albert extinguished the light on his wand and sighed softly. If he wanted to create a magical lamp, he would need to raise the Lumos spell to Level 3 or 4.
To raise a Level 2 skill to Level 3 requires 10,000 experience points, and to raise it to Level 4, the experience required is five times that of Level 3. Albert didn't want to think about it too much. The meager experience points in his experience pool were not enough to raise a skill to Level 4.
