Bab 231: Chapter 231: Guilty by Association

Albert's own doubts remained unanswered, and he couldn't obtain the Forbidden Section's book borrowing signature from Professor Flitwick either, which left him feeling frustrated. He was also bothered by Professor Flitwick's statement about the essence of spells being runic magic.

What exactly is runic magic? It refers to magical actions that harness the magical power of the wizarding world to achieve effects that ordinary people cannot achieve.

However, Albert didn't delve further into the topic. He believed that his understanding of the magical world was limited, and delving too deep might lead to confusion. Perhaps, at some point, he would come to understand these things.

Before leaving, Professor Flitwick reassured him that it was okay not to understand everything now and that he would naturally come to understand it in the future.

Though he had the help of the panel, Albert realized that his time in the magical world was still too short. He also understood that sometimes it was not a bad idea to slow down and take things step by step.

Of course, Albert didn't dwell on the matter further. There was another reason occupying his thoughts—his roommates were in trouble.

According to Lee Jordan, Fred and George had an unpleasant confrontation with Slytherin seeker Lucien Ball on the second-floor corridor of the castle. In the scuffle, George was hit by an unknown curse that caused leeks to grow out of his ears, while Ball was hit by the Hairy Hex, causing a large clump of nose hair to sprout from his nostrils.

Both parties were sent to the hospital wing.

"How are you feeling?" When Albert and Lee Jordan visited George in the hospital wing, they found him smiling and chatting with Fred.

"Not too good."

"Marvellous!" Fred threw a candy into his mouth, grinned, and winked at Albert.

"On another note, how did you end up fighting with Slytherin students?" Albert asked in confusion. He knew the twins wanted to mess with the Slytherin students, but he didn't expect it to happen so quickly.

"It can only be said that our luck was not good!" Fred muttered under his breath, "We were passing by the second-floor corridor, near the abandoned girls' lavatory. A few older Gryffindor students seemed to be planning to recreate the unpleasant events of last year and teach the Slytherin students a lesson. We accidentally got caught in their scuffle."

"And then..." Fred shrugged helplessly, "When I saw George hit by a curse, I took out my wand and took down the guys responsible."

Albert looked at Lee Jordan in exasperation, thinking, Can you be a bit more reliable? I thought something serious had happened.

Lee Jordan looked innocent.

"What was Professor McGonagall's reaction?" Albert continued to ask, "Is she planning to lock you up in detention?"

"Professor McGonagall was indeed angry, but she didn't put us in detention," George replied innocently, spreading his hands, "After all, we were just unfortunate bystanders who got caught up in the mess."

Unfortunate bystanders who got caught up in the mess? In reality, they weren't so innocent. The three of them had overheard the Gryffindor students planning to prank the Slytherin players and decided to join in on the fun. When they showed up and got caught in the crossfire, they conveniently took out their wands and helped sort things out by hexing the two Slytherin students.

Of course, in a public place like the hospital wing, they had to maintain the appearance of innocence.

"These guys have become quite cunning!" Albert couldn't help but remark in his mind, "I guess it's true what they say: 'guilty by association.'"

The incident caused quite a commotion.

There was no helping it; the Quartet had caused quite a few incidents last semester with their mischief against Slytherin students.

At that time, many people believed that it was the Gryffindor students who had caused the trouble. However, due to the lack of evidence and the fact that even within Gryffindor, no one knew who was responsible, the matter had to be hastily resolved.

But this time was different. The Gryffindor students responsible for the trouble were caught red-handed. Coupled with the previous incidents during the semester, the relationship between Gryffindor and Slytherin suddenly became tense and seemed to carry a hint of gunpowder.

What astonished Albert even more was that those few older Gryffindor students had completely replaced him and his friends as the targets of attention.

As for Fred, George, and Lee Jordan, they were quickly forgotten. After all, they were just innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.

"This really has nothing to do with us," Fred said innocently, spreading his hands. "You know, those Slytherin students have been acting arrogantly lately, and many people don't like them and want to teach them a lesson. But those people couldn't do it flawlessly, so this is what happened."

"What are you guys talking about?" Angelina and Alicia approached.

"Nothing," George changed the subject.

"I heard that those older students were given a week of detention. Professor Snape initially wanted to put them in detention for a month because he thought they were involved in last semester's incidents, but Professor McGonagall didn't agree," Angelina said, glancing at Albert, surprised. "You're actually doing your homework?!"

"No, he's planning something," Fred explained.

"What is he planning?"

"The planning for the Wizard Cards competition. Our club now has nearly forty members, and Albert is planning to hold a Wizard Cards competition."

"Are there prizes?" Alicia asked curiously.

"Yes," Lee Jordan nodded.

"What are the prizes?" Angelina continued to inquire, not expecting that they would actually organize a competition.

"Not sure yet, it could be Galleons, notebooks, or other symbolic rewards," Lee Jordan replied.

"Of course, it could also be a big barrel of butterbeer," Fred added.

"Albert intends to make Wizard Cards a tradition at Hogwarts, and I think it's a great idea," Lee Jordan said excitedly. He would be the commentator for the competition.

"When will it start?" Angelina asked curiously. She felt that it could be quite interesting, as the school had few other significant events besides Quidditch matches.

"There will be a selection process first, and then the final four contestants will compete. The top three will receive rewards," Albert explained. "We will provide the Wizard Cards, and the participants can freely combine the cards, but they only get one chance."

"You're quite generous," Alicia commented.

Who will provide the prizes? Naturally, it would be the organizers.

In truth, the meager investment was nothing compared to the future gains if Wizard Cards became popular. Building a name required time and accumulation, and in the near future, Hogwarts students would become the main consumer group for Wizard Cards.
