Unclenching his hands, careful to not drop the note, he took a deep breath. It didn't help take away his growing tiredness, a tiredness that never left him and was deeply rooted in his soul.
However the weird feeling racing over his skin was weirdly motivating, for it had not happened in years. So long that he couldn't even name it.
Just like the wind that was now caressing his hands, for the first time in forever he was without his gloves. And while he couldn't relish in the feeling for very long he vowed to try and get used to it again.
For now his black eyes focused and mirrored the velvet cloak just miles ahead. It was obvious who carried the heavy cloak, he would never forget to way the same back pointed at him as he made a show of gathering...equipment...with slow, cruciating words.
Despite his watering eyes, Dawn vowed he would get revenge and with a shift he once again looked at the person, still blissfully unaware of his presence.
Gathering his courage he envisioned it, his always cocky and grinning tormenter with mocking gaze turning towards him and finishing what he started.
He couldn't let that happen!
Wetting his lips he decided he couldn't wait any longer.
Element of surprise was his biggest card, beside the fact that if he was face to face with him he would lose all courage.
Dawn didn't deny the fact that he was weak, so very weak and useless.
And afraid, so afraid that his vision faltered for a second.
Never had he done it on a human.
It was only fitting that he would be the first!
Now or never.
Now or never
Approaching as silently as he could he ducked, apparition in the windows vanishing with him. Breathing out once more he quickened.
He could do it, he shouldn't even consider that monster as a human, a breathing and living being.
Dawn ignored the way his golden hair traced the ground, only noticing the way the distance shortened and felt immense relief as his fingertips gripped the hem of the robe successfully.
No sooner had he touched it, had the fabric started turning golden.
It was fast, the gold going upwards like stacking blocks, the velvet nowhere insight as it went from soft to hard.
And while it would definitely become a recurring nightmare, Dawn didn't stray away. He watched as black turned to absolute gold, taking in the process of his own power he never wished to use on a human.
But he did and why did it feel good?
Was it because it's him? Or was it because not seeing the human in question turn golden in front of his eyes? Was it because Dawn didn't see his last humanity fade away?
It....doesn't matter, gathering his hands close to his hands, he breathed a sigh of relief. A smile graced his features at the thought of never seeing those haunted, cold blue eyes again.
Eyes that could never compare to the pure blue of Adrian, eyes that would follow him day and night yet now would never be capable of that anymore.
His own eyes were sparkling, reflected by the small puddle of water he had only just noticed Seconds passed as his knees stayed on the cold ground, still suspiciously free
Before making up his mind and walking away without a look back
He hadn't even intended to look at that nightmarish face, it had followed him in his dreams. Not a fiber of his being wanted to see him in reality again!
He felt peaceful, his face for the first in ages stayed in a peaceful position.
"Missed me?" That's....impossible.
He would recognize that voice everywhere as it flowed in the air. Trembling breaths accompanied the voice as the vampire's heart beated in his eardrums. Wishing upon the stars that what he had heard was just an illusion, a hallucination.
"How foolish!''
Th...the statue... With his body twisting faster he raced right back and this time looked underneath the hood.
A snap released the magic covering the statue and the once nightmare fueled person turned....turned ''no..this..this can't be."
It was useless to try and hold back the tears as they dripped way too quickly towards the ground, his own body slacking along. ''What...have I..done?"
The woman's calm voice echoed softly in Dawn's head, rumpled note now drenched with his bloody tears as he vaguely wondered where the kids were. Did they get taken or were they waiting for their mother at home?
His mind was working in overdrive, assumptions forming one after the other as he also numbly took in the fact that he had once more been restricted from using his powers or even his healing and speed, a whisper leaving his mouth.
''Now I did not catch that. Mind saying that again."
Snarling he felt himself screaming ''It should have been you!!'' Despair was clear even to himself as his fist banged against the ground one after the other, staining them with blood as Dawn tried to atone for his actions, his sin.
Only now, when it was revealed that wasn't his tormenter but the young mother, did Dawn feel the rising remorse, quilt and pain.
He had nothing more to lose, he should just die. He deserved nothing more, so with deranged eyes he lunged towards the hovering figure just a little ahead.
Chuckle grazing the surroundings made his hair stand up, figure vanishing and returning with a kick to Dawn's back. ''Ughnn.'' Bracing immediately, pain seared through his arms as skin torn off by uneven stones.
''You still bleed red so easily.``
He was faltering, he couldn't even fight or even try and take revenge for the trick used.
If only....if only he could turn back his power, if he was just usefull at even one thing then...then...
"..lease.."
''Didn't hear you.''
Eyes snapping up, he carefully looked up at the cause of this ordeal.
He was still the same, standing over him with a scorning gaze, pleasure flickering within them. His voice full of glee, not even bothering to hide the enjoyment he got out of it.
Usual wide smirk however nowhere to be found and Dawn could already feel the growing fear as he really realised he would not be left whole if he let himself be taken.....not that he had a choice.
He deserved to live in torment for what he did, he deserved to pay yet he couldn't help the instinctive sunk in his shoulders, nibbling of his teeth combined with his trembling lips.
Even when he meekly crawled closer, he could feel the pressure rising, adding another dose of pressure on his shoulders. Gulping with great difficulty he squeezed his meager hope as he brought his head down on the ground, covered with mud.
''Please.''
''I beg of you..Henry.'' Name left his mouth with a foul stench and taste, he would say it a thousand times over.
''So you still know my name.''
Dawn's corners lifted slightly, his mind racing at what to say next yet he was cut off as Henry disappeared, returning not much later while landing a kick from the side.
With a groan Dawn flipped right into the wall, the kick having been enhanced with mana leaving him with shaky arms desperately returning towards his kneeling position from before.
''I-i do everything.ugh..please please just save her.''
Gritting his teeth, he saw Henry gave the statue a once over before disregarding it entirely.''
"I won't fight back!'' Desperation clung to the exclamation before Dawn meekly added. ''I'll let you do as you please.'' The only thing that met him was disinterest.
''Like you could even if you wanted to."
Silence stretched as the words sunk, the fact that Henry was right was obvious. Dawn had always been at his mercy even when he hadn't know it and when he did there had been no mercy to speak off.
''I-i don't know what else I....I can offer?''
"I do."
''...W-what do you have in mind.'' Short sentences...it unsettled it. While years had passed at this point Henry had always loved to speak so seeing this side of him left small shivers on his spine. It didn't help that he came closer, leaving him with lowered closed eyes.
Same velvet material pooling at his finger as his face got pinched between two fingers.
''Those two gorgeous eyes must have seen a lot.' Tell me all about the Sage and the new little vamp.''
It was a threat, the squeezing fingers showcasing how little choice he had.
''I-i can't.''
''Well then, I tried easy.'' With a swift movement Henry's fingers shifted, rapidly fisting them on the golden locks before crashing the vampire's face on the ground. The crack of bones ignored as Dawn was pulled up again, blood decorating the pale skin as he was forced to look at the statue.
"That woman has two kids, not even her own but her brother who died together with his wife in a fire. Currently she is planning to secretly marry her long time girlfriend." The words combined with the painful position made things worse for the already crying, sobbing vampire. His back arching with extreme discomfort as assumptions formed in his fogged up mind.
"And you will be the cause of her disappearance, giving just another reason to cry for the young twins.''
To accentuate his words, his teeth nibbled on the vampire's ear, not even bothering to hide the humm of approval at the shriek that left him.
Nonchalant he let go, watching with sullen eyes as the other crashed down again.
''They will die. All because of you.
If you just agree I will help them.
Make up a cover story and once I am satisfied I shall undo your magic.''
Response was small, silent and while he heard he pretended not to
''If you don't, well the other woman has a serious injury, she won't be able to care for them adequately"
''I'll do it! Please, please just stop'' Voice cracked, the lack of use leaving it broken.
''We have so much catching up to do, Dawn."
Dread filled him as he realised that he should have never hoped, he would never have escaped.
Not now, not ever!
