Mrs. Brown was especially exhausted today, both physically and emotionally.
Amelia was planning to go back once Amelia came back, but Clarence Baker volunteered to drive them back. Mrs. Brown initially declined, but Amelia's car unexpectedly failed to start.
Mrs. Brown wondered, "Amelia, what's wrong with the car?"
"It might be out of gas. Let me call Albert…"
Before making the phone call, Clarence Baker's car arrived, and he hurriedly went to help check the car. He was so busy that his forehead was covered in sweat. Mrs. Brown felt a bit guilty, and she suspected that they had ulterior motives.
But Oscar Wright went to send off Donald Campbell, who was very happy today and drank a lot.
As for relying on her son now, she didn't know why he was so busy.
Amelia felt helpless too; the car had broken down for real.
Clarence Baker asked, "Shall we give you a ride?"
"That would be nice."
Amelia tried calling Albert Brown to ask where he was, but the call didn't go through.
