Bab 32: Who Is She !? I Thought She Was Sophie's Backdrop
"Hey Guys , Have you bought a copy of the latest issue of the Mystic !?"
"Are you referring to the oriental trend issue !? I have bought it already. Originally, I was going to buy Royal Magazine, but I was attracted by the front cover of Mystic"
"Are you guys crazy, Mystic hasn't done anything for so many years. They don't understand fashion at all"
"Quick, Quick , Go buy it. Mystic really lives up to it's expectations this time. You will regret it if you don't buy it"
This was a conversation between people after the issue of Oriental trend was released by Mystic.
That's right, after all their hardwork, Mystic finally released their oriental trend issue named - Oriental trend.
Originally, Mystic had already lost it's status amongs magazines and their sales weren't something to brag about.
However, after the release of the oriental trend issue, the melancholy black and white cover actually stood out amongst the other colourful magazines.
Everyone passing by the news stands couldn't help but stop for a moment to take a look.
In just 3 days , all the major news agencies contacted Mystic, requesting for a reprint. They wanted to increase the circulation of the magazine, because it deserved a spot in their stands.
Many companies that didn't expect much from Mystic, were now regretting their decision for not working with them.
At the same time, the woman on the super popular front cover climbed up search rankings on one of the biggest search engines in Mexico. Her name was almost at the top.
Meanwhile, some of the most searched phrases included - 'Mystic Oriental trend' , 'Mystic Oriental Woman', and 'Oriental Beauty Sophie '.
The huge sales from the oriental issue, unexpectedly helped Mystic receive an impressive revival.
People in the industry critiqued it and once again acknowledged it.
In 3 days , the sales of the issue broke the records of many big publications. And Just like that , They became the new favorite among the fashion industry.
As the fresh winds of the oriental trend swapped across the casual and western countries.
Mystic had finally succeeded, and the model on the front cover definitely deserves the praise.
Amber couldn't wait to show her results to the judges of the top 10 model awards.
However, that night , Kathy stared at the search engine for a long time. But no matter how hard she searched , she couldn't find any mentions of Amber.
No model who had ever appeared on the front cover and received no mention.
'What cunning scheme did Sophie play this time !?'
Kathy didn't mention this issue to Amber, because apart from Amber being busy planning her engagement party with Nathan , Kathy also wanted to investigate it further.
Next to her hand laid a magazine featuring Sophie and Amber and she couldn't deny it by looking at the cover that Sophie's skills was way beyond her expectations, she had definitely underestimated her.
2 days later, Mystic held a dinner to celebrate their revival. Amber and Sophie were both guests of honor.
This would be the first time they faced media together, since the interview for the photoshoot.
That night, Amber wore a long black dress , that dragged across the floor.
She attended the dinner accompanied by Nathan and Kathy.
Upon arriving at the entrance, they ran to Sophie.
Compared to the magazine's front cover, Sophie seemed to have swapped outfits with Amber.
Amber was wearing Black and gave off a calm aura, wheres, Sophie wore an off shoulder white dress , looking heavenly.
"Sophie, I need to thank you using all your strength to help my entry into the top ten model awards" Amber started the conversation.
"Did you know how many endorsements I received during this short amount of time !?"
"So , You are still using Jacklin Roberts to create news of yourself about becoming an international supermodel!?" Sophie slightly smiled.
This smile made Amber angry and made Kathy clench her fists. She wanted so badly to gauge her eyes out.
"O My god! Is that the model Sophie !?"
"Yeah , It's Sophie! It's really her!"
"Hurry, Let's interview her!"
After speaking , Sophie simply brushed pass Amber , she had no time to deal with her questions.
A bunch of reporters rushed towards Sophie , in order to avoid them she had to leave Amber and the others behind, quickly entered the hotel.
Unfortunately for Amber, nobody paid any attention to her.
"We should head in as well!" Nathan wrapped his arm around Amber
In this Mexican fashion capital, because he was too busy in planning his engagement party , Nathan had zero idea of why Amber was not receiving any attention.
However, Kathy knew everything clearly.
"My God, Sophie is here!"
"Sophie finally appeared"
"Sophie! Sophie!"
The atmosphere at the celebration dinner became full of excitement as soon as Sophie entered.
Wheres towards Amber, who was behind Sophie, no one even knew she existed.
Seeing this Amber sneered inside. They both appeared on the same magazine, how was it possible that Sophie was so popular, yet no one even mentioned her name.
"Sophie is so despicable, she must have paid for these fans to boost herself"
Afterwards, when they looked Sophie from the stage , she also noticed Amber, without being biased she also invited both of them at the stage.
But, "Thank you Everyone for coming. The heroes of this issue of Mystic is currently in front of us. Let me introduce our front cover models - Sophie Monroe and Amber Moon"
Hearing Sophie's name, Everyone was in surprised. Although her name hadn't spread at the end of this earth , her photos and news had impressed everyone.
On the other hand , Amber... Who was she !?
The reporters below the stage looked at each other confusingly. Although, this issue of magazine was a success and they looked it over numerous times, they never noticed the front coverhad anyone else apart from Sophie.
So , when the name of Amber was introduced, everyone was puzzled.
"Who is that !?"
"Oooh. I remember now , she must be the one holding onto Sophie's hand as part of the set. I thought she was part of the backdrop. Look, doesn't she look a typical street walker !?"
"My God , If I didn't look again, I wouldn't have even noticed. Now that I look at it carefully , how is she shameless enough to stand beside Sophie !? They are worlds apart"
Hearing the discussions, Amber's expression changed. Never would she have thought, apart of buying fans , Sophie had instructed them to defame her and Humiliate her.
So, she turned sideways towards Sophie and complained, "Sophie, your heart is vicious. Do you think by defaming me you can cover up how amazing I am !? I also had a role in making Mystic receive such a huge sales. But I would have never thought you'd be so disposable as to defame me at this dinner"
"You think too highly of yourself" Sophie turned her head and smiled calmly.
Amber stood on the stage awkwardly. She believed Everyone below the stage belonged to Sophie. She even pointed at them and asked straightforwardly, "How much did Sophie paid you to praise her and criticize me so much!? Are you dogs !?"
Linda looked at Amber , as she listened to the translation from her translator. Afterwards, she walked over to Amber angrily and spoke, "I invited you out of respect, and courtesy. Miss Davies , is this your professional attitude !? How dare you offend the reporters at such a public event !?"
"They were organized by Sophie! Otherwise, why they would pay attention to only her and Humiliate me !?" Amber whispered.
After hearing the translation a smirk appeared across Linda's face, "Originally today was a day worth of celebrating so, I didn't want to argue with you, but Miss Davies , I have never seen a magazine with two models on the cover , where one model becomes the hottest topic and the other practically receives zero mentions"
"Zero !?" Amber was surprised.
"Do you know what that means !? It means as well as the other than the people present here , anyone in Mexico, even the world that has seen this magazine, and looked at the cover , they didn't know your existence"
The translator translated for Amber word for word. After hearing the translation, Amber's face turned pale. " This is impossible. This must be a conspiracy between the two of you. This is all your doings" Amber founded it hard to believe. She was definitely on the front cover of the magazine, how could she receive no mentions , this couldn't be true.
"Are you not aware of your own abilities!? Before this issue was released, we were already prepared to accept the even merely Contrast. But who would've thought, instead of being a contrast, you stoop to the level of being a backdrop, without even a trace of existence" Linda took out a copy Mystic's and handed over it to Amber.
If not for attending this dinner, Amber would've still acknowledged her own existence. But , after hearing everyone calling her part of the backdrop , her confidence came crushing down.
Sophie was so good at adopting to her surroundings. That Amber was made to look like a part of the background. Above all, Sophie's eyes were so lively that Amber's arrogant stare looked lifeless in comparison. This was the reason Amber had no mentions. Because, no one could tell that she was even alive.
Amber held onto the magazine as she took a few steps back, if not for Nathan holding onto her , she would've fallen of the stage.
"I heard in New York, there is a article comparing you to Jacklin Roberts. If I were you I would hide in Mexico for the rest of my life, because I would be too ashamed to go back"
Amber looked like she have been struck by an lightning. Her mind was blank and she stared at herself at the cover.
This couldn't be, everyone had praised her on her skills previously. There was no way that she couldn't even be compared to Sophie.
'This is impossible, Sophie must have done something. She must have... Sophie I never thought you would sabotage me at this way" Amber accused Sophie angrily.
Nathan glared at Sophie, "For the sake of revenge, you would really go to any length"
"Revenge !?" Sophie smiled sweetly, "Mr. Nathan , Tell me , what would a person like me with no background and no top class manager, that even got her clothes snatched from her. What length can I go to ??"
"You...!" As usual Nathan was furious at Sophie again.
"Was I the one caused her to have no mentions !? It was obviously because she was not skilled enough" Sophie replied calmly, "Also , was I the one who made her too ashamed to return back to New York !? It was because you guys shamelessly used someone else's fame to boost Amber " she went on, "If you consider this revenge , then the real revenge is yet to come" After speaking Sophie and Linda looked at each other before Linda welcomed the representatives from ISN onto the stage.
Two tall and Handsome men walked up to the stage , at the red carpet towards Sophie and Linda, gave each other a friendly hug , before , turning to the announcer.
"We are pleased to announce, Sophie will become ISN's brand Ambassador for the American region"
ISN !? A top french brand with the century old history.
Upon deciding to go international, they actually got Sophie to be their Brand Ambassador !? For the entire American region !?
In comparison, The deals that Amber received as a result of using someone else's fame , all were not a small amount , not a single one of them had a big budget to range to highly in New York. How could they compare to a top international brand.
Amber's face turned even more pale, her body felt like it was crumbling on it's own weight. If word go out about the incident in Mexico , she may not be able to even hold onto even the cheap deals.
"When did you accept this deal !? Don't you know it has to pass through the company's approval !?" Nathan questioned Sophie angrily in front of everyone.
Sophie turned around and faced Nathan as she spoke, "The contract has already been seen by the company's higher ups. I forgot to mention it to you, they all approved. As for when I accepted the deal , of course it was during the time you and Amber were affectionately organizing your engagement party, while I was working, what were you doing !? If you don't know how to be the CEO of Global pictures entertainment, you can always pass it to Someone else. There are plenty of people who would want your position. What !? Is this considered revenge as well !?" Sophie snapped, "Nathan, as of now, let me give you a warning, if you continue to protect Amber, Global pictures will eventually give up on you" Sophie wasn't finished yet. As Sophie had already risen high above Amber, Global pictures'e shareholders weren't pleased by Nathan's decision making. Always causing trouble for Sophie , even at public events like this.
Sophie endorsing an international brand was such a huge step forward for Global Pictures. It was bad enough that he didn't support her, he even went as far as to defame Sophie for the sake of Amber . On top of everything, because they had high hopes for Amber they had wasted all their time and money on her. In the end , nothing resulted from Mystic as she didn't even receive any mentions. She went to Mexico, on the disguise of being at the same stage as Sophie. In the end , she only became a part of the Backdrop!
Was this the level of skills of Amber that Nathan was boasting so much about saying it was comparable to Jacklin Roberts !? It goes without saying, at this moment, Amber , the international supermodel with promising future , was about to fall in the depths of the abyss and become abandoned.
She was overshadowed by Sophie so much, people even thought that she wasn't even alive. Who was going to look up to someone who appeared to be look like a part of the backdrop.
Kathy glared at Sophie fiercely. She never thought, while they were relaxing, Sophie managed to finalize a deal with such a famous french brand. Increasing the distance between her and Amber by thousands of miles. As a manager this was the first time she didn't know how to deal with an artist.
After this issue of Mystic , Sophie's popularity and status would be increased, wheres for Amber it would go at the opposite direction.
Originally all Linda wanted was a simple celebration dinner, but instead, it had now turned into Global Pictures's internal fighting grounds. So , She called the security guard over to escort Amber out of the hotel. However, she was stopped by Kathy , "We can show ourselves out!" ..... "Sophie , You are ruthless!" Kathy retorted
No matter how ruthless she was, it was only fair. But it didn't matter if Sophie had won this battle or did some kind of deal with ISN , it was not enough. Even watching the three being sent out helplessly wasn't enough. Nathan was still the CEO of Global pictures entertainment and Amber had not been pushed completely to the depths. So , an even a more impressive show was still yet to come.
After leaving the hotel , Amber knelt on the ground dumbfounded. At this time, this helpless scene was captured by Noah, who was waiting for Sophie outside the hotel in his car. He secured a recording on his phone. She only received such a small blow and she already couldn't Handle it.
