Sarell peacefully sat at the dining table in the bright kitchen, the steam from the cup of chamomile tea warming his face as he watched his mother deftly whip from side to side as she tied up his brother's hair. He had a lot of experience with wild hair because of Reqiel but he wouldn't dare try to do his siblings' hair, he had no idea how his mother managed it.

He was beyond happy with his new life, contentment settling on his bones in a way he had never dreamed of before but that was getting tainted with the uncertainty around Velia's unexplained absence. He hoped that stepping out of the house would help distract him and by the time he returned, Velia would be around.
