Sarell couldn't sleep, he gave up on trying as the dawn drew closer, going to sit in the main room instead, blankets wrapped around his body to stave away the morning chill. Velia had promised to return the day before but he hadn't, and if it were any other time, he would have not minded because he knew how much duties the Crown Prince had, but the news of a coup couldn't have come at a worse time.
He tried to convince himself that something must have caused the delay and Velia would certainly come that day. He had been distracted as evening came and there was still no sign of Velia and his mother had immediately picked up on it, but Sarell didn't want to tell her about the coup.
He held onto the hope that it would be resolved like Velia said it would and everything would go back to the way it used to be, because he didn't want to think about the alternative.
