Bab 2: Chapter 2: Awakening in the Dark

1st person pov

I opened my eyes and found myself in a forest, surrounded by a plethora of tree species—oaks, spruce, and others. Not knowing where I was, I began to run, searching for any signs of civilization. Soon, I found a lake. I had heard that bodies of water can lead to civilization. For some reason, my eyes were drawn to the sky.

There, hanging in the sky, was a beautiful sight: a full moon, like a luminous pearl, casting its ethereal glow across the world below. I felt pulled toward it, as if it was calling to me. Then I remembered the lake. I started heading toward it, but as I ran, I noticed something strange—my shadow. It wasn't the shadow of a man but of a wolf. Confused, I continued running.

As I ran, I tried to recall how I got here. My last memory was of reaching my bed and falling asleep. So, this must be a dream. It was then I realized something was running beside me. Then I saw it—a wolf, and not just one, but a whole pack of them.

I should have been terrified. These wolves could have been hunting me. But instead, I felt exhilarated, running with them as if I were one of them—part of their pack. As we neared the lake, I felt something stuck in my throat, like a scream fighting to get out. I held it in until I couldn't anymore, and when I finally let it out, it wasn't a scream but a howl.

It was then that I woke up, sweat rolling off my body. For a moment, I just lay there, staring up at the ceiling, my heart still pounding. The dream felt so real—the moon, the wolves, the howl. It all felt so real. Even my throat was sore, as if I had been screaming all night. I could still feel the cool night air and the damp earth beneath my feet. I forced myself to sit up, running my fingers through my damp hair. I looked around; everything seemed normal, as normal as an empty room could be. There was still no furniture, just a mattress and a blanket. The movers wouldn't be here until tomorrow.

But then, I felt a chill go down my spine. I hugged the blanket closer—a feeble attempt to protect myself. I looked around the room again, and still nothing. But then I looked toward the closet, which was left slightly ajar. I stared into the darkness, and to my shock, something was staring back. Two bright, golden eyes with a red hue gleamed from the shadows. My heart started to pound. A low growl came from the darkness, and then it was gone. I rubbed my eyes once more, but there was nothing.

Sighing, I got up and went to freshen up. It was 6:00 in the morning. I usually got up this early to train and work out, but without my equipment, I'd have to stick to regular body exercises.

By the time I finished, it was 7:00. I walked down the hallway and entered Hope's room. We had school in an hour.

Hope's room was quiet, only the soft sound of her breathing filled the space. She was still fast asleep, her hair spread out messily over the pillow. I watched her for a moment, reluctant to wake her, but we didn't have much time left.

"Hope, wake up," I said softly, shaking her shoulder.

She groaned, turning over to face the wall. "Five more minutes," she mumbled.

"Can't. We've got school soon," I said, my voice still hoarse. I coughed to clear my throat, but the soreness lingered. I hadn't realized until now how much the howl from the dream had affected me. It felt like it had scraped the inside of my throat raw.

Hope finally sat up, rubbing her eyes. She looked at me, still half-asleep, then frowned. "You okay? You look like you've seen a ghost."

I forced a smile, trying to shake off the unease still lingering from the dream and the encounter with the eyes. "Yeah, just a weird dream. Don't worry about it."

She stretched and yawned. "If you say so. I'll get ready."

I nodded, leaving her room and heading back to mine. My mind kept drifting back to those eyes in the closet. Maybe it really had been a trick of the light, my imagination playing games with me after the dream. But it felt too real. And the growl... I quickly removed that thought from my head and focused on getting dressed.

I pulled on a tight black shirt that clung to my broad, muscular frame, the fabric stretching over every inch of muscle. I slipped into a pair of faded blue jeans, the denim snug but comfortable. Over it all, I threw on a black leather jacket, the dark material supple, broken in from years of wear, with subtle brown highlights that gave it character.

It wasn't long before Hope and I were out the door. There, in the parking area, was my baby—a black Chevrolet Camaro 2012. Hopping in and revving up the engine, we got ready to head to Beacon Hills High School

At the entrance of Beacon Hills High, two boys can be seen speaking to each other in loud tones, their voices cutting through the morning air as they talk about the previous night's outing.

"Okay, let's see this thing," one of them said, a lanky guy with a buzz cut. His friend, a medium-height young man with olive skin, dark brown eyes, curly dark brown hair, and a lean but muscular build, hesitated before lifting his shirt to reveal a bandaged wound, a small amount of blood seeping through the gauze.

"Ooh!" the buzz-cut boy exclaimed, poking the bandage, causing his friend to flinch in pain.

"Whoa!" the buzz-cut boy reacted, his eyes wide with surprise.

The injured boy quickly pulled his shirt back down, clearly in discomfort as they resumed walking into the school.

"It was too dark to see much, but I'm pretty sure it was a wolf," the injured boy said, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

"A wolf bit you?" the buzz-cut boy asked, disbelief evident in his tone.

"Uh-huh," the other boy replied, nodding.

"No, not a chance," the buzz-cut boy shot back, shaking his head as if Scott was crazy.

The injured boy looked confused. "I heard a wolf howling."

The buzz-cut boy scoffed, shaking his head again. "No, you didn't."

"What do you mean, 'No, I didn't?' How do you know what I heard?" the injured boy asked, frustration creeping into his voice.

"Because California doesn't have wolves, okay? Not in, like, sixty years," the buzz-cut boy explained, his tone firm, as if stating an indisputable fact.

The injured boy stopped in his tracks, surprised. "Really?"

"Yes, really. There are no wolves in California."

"Well, if you don't believe me about the wolf, then you're definitely not gonna believe me when I tell you I found the body."

The buzz-cut boy's demeanor instantly shifted from exasperation to excitement. "You—are you kidding me?"

"No, man, I wish. I'm gonna have nightmares for a month."

"Oh, God, that is freakin' awesome. I mean, this is seriously gonna be the best thing that's happened to this town since—" The buzz-cut boy's train of thought was abruptly derailed as a girl walked up the stairs toward the school. She was beautiful, with an air of confidence that made everyone around her stop and stare.

"—Since the birth of Lydia Martin. Hey, Lydia! You look—"

Lydia walked right past him, completely ignoring his attempt to get her attention.

"—Like you're gonna ignore me..." he finished, looking back at his friend with an irritated expression.

"You're the cause of this, you know."

"Uh-huh," the injured boy replied, rolling his eyes.

"Dragging me down to your nerd depths. I'm a nerd by association. I've been Scarlet-nerded by you," the buzz-cut boy grumbled.

Suddenly, a loud roaring engine caught their attention. They turned around to see a beautiful black 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. Out from the car stepped two eye-catching individuals. One was a tall, muscular behemoth of a man, with strong, rippling muscles visible through the black shirt he was wearing. He stood at an imposing 6 feet 5 inches, with a handsome face and a sharp jawline. His beautiful amethyst eyes were partially hidden by curly long hair.

Beside him was a stunning girl, much shorter at 5 feet 3 inches, her height boosted by high heels. She had bright light blue eyes, wavy auburn-colored hair, and a buxom body that drew every eye.

These two captured everyone's attention as they passed. Scott felt something off about the taller boy, an unsettling sensation that made him uneasy. But when he turned around, they were already inside the building, heading toward the principal's office.

Stiles blinked, his mouth hanging slightly open. "Dude, who are they?" he asked, his voice hushed as if not to draw their attention.

"I don't know," Scott replied, his brow furrowed, still feeling the lingering unease. "But something about them feels...different."

"Yeah, different," Stiles echoed, though his eyes remained glued to the door where the pair had just entered. "And not in the 'new kid' way. More like... 'holy crap, are they even real?' way."

Scott nodded, his mind racing with questions he didn't have answers to. But one thing was certain: this school day had just gotten a lot more interesting—and a lot more complicated.

The bell rang, signaling the start of the school day, pulling them out of their thoughts. But even as they headed to class, neither could shake the feeling that they were about to be pulled into something far beyond the ordinary.

Hey everyone, new author here! I'd love to hear your feedback on this story. For a bit of reference, Hope looks like Hope Mikaelson, and the main character's body is inspired by the protagonist of Survival of a Sword King manhwa. Thanks for reading, and I'll do my best to update regularly. Looking forward to improving with each chapter!
