Chapter Seventy-Nine: A New Melody
Elena Rivers was right; since Lydia Moore already had someone she liked, she shouldn't continue giving Aaron King false hope, letting him misunderstand the situation further. After all, one day she would leave Sakura Academy and return to Qingli. There was no future for them together. After sorting out her thoughts, Lydia finally made up her mind. She smiled, feeling relieved. "Yes, I'll explain everything to him. Don't worry," she assured Elena, who seemed slightly less anxious after hearing her decision.
At that moment, Lydia's phone buzzed on the table. It was a message from Aaron King: "I'm at the Fireworks Square. Come over." His tone was still commanding as ever. Lydia slowly set the phone back down, her gaze lingering in the sunlight streaming through the window. No matter what, today she had to tell him the truth. Perhaps the hurt she would cause him would be temporary, but she would do everything in her power to make amends. She prayed that one day they could be friends again, able to interact naturally and freely as they once did.
If he could never forgive her, then she would leave Sakura Academy with that regret. She could do anything for him, but she couldn't bring herself to deceive him. The sound of students laughing as they walked along the shaded path reached Lydia's ears, but her heart remained heavy.
As she reached the bottom of the dormitory steps, a girl in a white school uniform suddenly appeared from behind a tree, handing Lydia a pale green balloon adorned with white angel wings. "You have to be happy," the girl said, her clear eyes full of kindness. "Thank you, but..." Lydia began, wanting to ask what this was about, but the girl simply smiled mysteriously and ran off. As Lydia continued walking towards Fireworks Square, another pretty girl handed her an "angel balloon" every few steps. By the time she reached the square, she was holding a whole bunch of balloons.
The square was vast and empty, with no one in sight. Strange, Aaron King had said to meet here, Lydia thought, puzzled. She continued walking forward, and as she drew closer, she realized the square was filled with "angel balloons," their soft green glow hovering in the air, the white angel wings looking pure and beautiful. In the center of the square, flower petals were scattered, their pink and white hues trembling lightly in the sunlight, releasing a fragrant scent. The serene, warm square seemed like a fantastical, dreamy fairy tale world, and Lydia couldn't help but be mesmerized.
She walked slowly toward the center of the square, her steps light and careful, as if afraid of disturbing the slumbering angels. A gentle breeze blew, lifting the petals into the air, where they floated and danced. The petals swirled around Lydia, who reached out to catch one, her smile bright and beautiful, like Alice who had accidentally wandered into Wonderland. At that moment, music began to play behind her, and she turned around abruptly—
The sky was a deep, clear blue, dotted with white clouds.
On the steps of the square, a tall and handsome boy stood with a guitar slung over his back. His slender, strong fingers plucked the strings rhythmically, producing a series of lively and captivating notes. He wore a white shirt, his perfectly sculpted face angular and striking. The sunlight filtered through his hair, his soft brown locks falling gently over his forehead. His dark eyes shone with a brilliant, pure light.
Gazing at the girl in the center of the square, he leaned forward slightly toward the microphone, his lips parting to sing: "You are my angel, my protective angel. From now on, I'll never be sad. You are my angel, my joyful angel. You even taught me how to fly..." His voice was rich and magnetic, filled with sincere emotion that could easily touch the softest part of anyone's heart.
Lydia stood frozen, staring at him, her grip on the balloons tightening unconsciously, her breath catching slightly.
The music flowed gently, like a dream, as the petals fluttered through the air.
"Flying through life's uncertainties, I learned that love is the real treasure. No matter how the world changes, as long as I have you, it will be heaven..." The boy leaned closer, the crystal-clear sunlight highlighting his perfect jawline, his deep eyes brimming with affection. "Like a child relying on a shoulder, like tears relying on cheeks, you're like an angel, giving me comfort, giving me strength..."
The first time he met her was in the heat of summer. "Hi, I'm a new transfer student in my second year. Could you help me carry my luggage to the dorm?" Back then, she had been so ordinary, her smile silly, making him irritated just by looking at her. But gradually, everything started to change.
"One day, you'll meet someone who truly loves you, someone who will do anything for you. She'll be worth letting go of all your fears and doubts to love." Was she the angel she spoke of? But often, she wasn't always as pure and kind as an angel; she frequently annoyed him. "Weird, didn't you swear you wouldn't come back? So why did you 'lower yourself' to show up here today?" When she said that, her expression was so infuriating!
This silly girl... Aaron King's lips curled into a gentle smile, the faint sweetness transforming into a melodious tune under his fingers.
A small bird, afraid of the cold, seemed drawn to the enchanting music, chirping happily from its perch in a tree. Students passing by the square couldn't help but be captivated as well. They never knew Aaron King could play the guitar so well, let alone imagine him singing for a girl.
In that moment, Lydia Moore seemed to be the most enviable girl in the world, yet her heart was a jumble of emotions—surprise, gratitude, guilt, and unease all swirling together, leaving her feeling overwhelmed, wishing she could just disappear from everyone's sight.
The tips of the balloons sparkled in the sunlight, the heartfelt, mesmerizing melody echoing in the square, making it feel like they were in a romantic, beautiful fairy tale, where time had silently stopped. As the song ended, Aaron King slowly emerged from his memories, his smile blooming like a flower, freezing time and space, leaving only the beauty of his loving gaze.
