Bab 49: The Mystery of Ditto's Severe Injury

After leaving the Bell Tower, Cain remained silent.

Ditto, if I see you again, I'll make sure you know the consequences of betrayal.

Cain, who had just suppressed his emotions, suddenly heard a shout.

"Cain..."

Leo hurried over.

"Why are you here? I've been looking for you for a long time. Your Ditto has been severely injured. If it weren't for me cleaning up the Cobblestone Path today, it might have died." Leo continued.

"What?"

Leo's words clearly took Cain by surprise.

Injured, Cobblestone Path, how could this happen?

A series of questions flooded Cain's mind.

"Don't just stand there, go check it out."

After saying that, Leo pulled Cain and ran towards the main hall of the Gym.

Two hired doctors that Leo had found were busy treating Ditto, who was still unconscious.

"Cain, I haven't seen you all morning. Were you also looking for Ditto?" Morty asked, while Fantina also looked worried for Ditto.

Cain nodded and then asked the two doctors, "How is it?"

However, the two doctors ignored Cain and continued using various medicines to treat Ditto.

Not getting an answer from the doctors, Cain observed Ditto's condition himself. This superficial medical knowledge wasn't too difficult for him.

There were burns caused by Will-O-Wisp and injuries caused by Dark Pulse. Looking at Ditto's startled and twitching state in its coma, it seemed to have been mentally tormented as well.

Did Ditto have a conflict with some Ghost-type Pokémon yesterday and got beaten up?

No, that doesn't make sense. Why would Ditto be injured on the Cobblestone Path when it was training in the Bell Tower? Besides, Cain had been to the Bell Tower more than once, and the Pokémon inside didn't have this kind of ability. It seemed that they could only wait for Ditto to wake up to get the answers.

...

"After treatment, Ditto should be fine. It should wake up by tonight, but it needs to rest for at least a week. Let's put the special training on hold for now."

The doctor explained to Cain.

"Okay."

After saying that, Cain carried Ditto back to his dormitory.

In the evening, Ditto finally woke up, but it was in a daze, with a blank stare. Cain had to slowly feed it milk bit by bit before it would swallow.

"Consider this compensation for wrongly blaming you."

As Cain fed Ditto, he thought about the opponent that had hurt it.

For several days in a row, Ditto had been in a state of stupor, occasionally accompanied by a high fever, and medication had been constantly administered.

However, Cain wouldn't give up on training Gastly because of Ditto. During the day, he continued Gastly's special training and battled some Gym challengers. So far, there hadn't been an ideal Poison-type Pokémon.

Due to Ditto's injuries not improving, Morty temporarily put off challenging the fifth floor of the Brass Tower. Anyway, there was still a month's time, and he had confidence in himself.

A week passed, and Ditto's external injuries had mostly healed, but it still seemed a bit disoriented.

In the following days, Cain took Ditto to the training grounds every day to watch the others' special training sessions.

After half a month, Ditto finally fully recovered, and Cain took it to the Pokémon Center for a full-body checkup.

After making sure there were no issues, Cain finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The previous training wasn't in vain; if Ditto had died, all that time spent training would have been wasted.

However, Ditto looked at Cain with grateful eyes, and its determination to be with this trainer grew stronger.

Pokémon really do have strong feelings, but sadly, I'm no longer the boy I used to be.

Bringing Ditto back to the dormitory, Cain was eager to find out the truth.

"What exactly happened that night, Ditto? Show me what you saw by transforming into it."

Ditto closed its eyes and began to remember, suddenly showing a terrified expression on its face, its body trembling uncontrollably.

"What's so scary? Is it scarier than death?" Cain shouted, pulling Ditto back from its fear.

Ditto blinked its eyes and looked at Cain.

"Are you scared? As a Pokémon, your duty is to fight. If you're afraid before even fighting, is it worth living? No matter how strong your opponent is, you have to give it your all. Maybe you still have a chance to survive, but fear only leads to a dead end."

Cain wanted to instill this mindset in every Pokémon he trained.

Finally, Ditto showed a determined look in its eyes.

It tried hard to recall that terrifying memory...

Transformed.

Gengar? It had many horns on its head.

Although Ditto's transformation wasn't perfect, Cain had already figured out the answer.

"You can rest now," Cain said to Ditto, who immediately reverted to its original form. The fear from the experience hadn't completely faded.

Mega Gengar, even though Ditto's transformation had been blurry, it was enough for Cain to recognize.

It seemed that the attacker of Ditto was undoubtedly Mega Gengar. Cain had encountered Mega Gengar once at the Bell Tower.

At that time, Cain saw Mega Gengar using Hypnosis to lead several Ghost-type Pokémon out of the Bell Tower. It must have been when Ditto transformed into a Ghost-type Pokémon and was caught in Mega Gengar's Hypnosis. When they reached the Cobblestone Path, Ditto was discovered and attacked by Mega Gengar. Will-O-Wisp, Dark Pulse, and Psychic were all moves that Mega Gengar was skilled at.

The night Ditto was attacked, Cain was not around. It seemed that Cain still didn't know about the existence of Mega Gengar. Even if he did, Cain's strength wouldn't be enough to confront this Mega Gengar.

Two times - Cain had entanglement with Mega Gengar twice.

Once, Mega Gengar exited the Bell Tower, and the other time Ditto was attacked on the Cobblestone Path.

Both times pointed to the same direction – "Crestmont Cemetery."

Mega Gengar was in the Crestmont Cemetery, as was the Tomb Palace. Everything seemed to be getting more confusing.

Cain's interest in the Tomb Palace of Crestmont Cemetery grew. The Mega Gengar was likely the one from the family's ancestors, the one that disappeared with the death of the fourth generation of the Crestmont family.

It seemed that it was used by the fourth generation of the Crestmont family to guard the Tomb Palace.

In the previous life, Morty's son could open the Tomb Palace and obtain the Ghost-type breeding ancient book. Cain should be able to do the same, but the stone pavilion and bronze cauldron didn't look like they could be moved by human power.

Had Cain overlooked something?

Cain carefully recalled everything about the Crestmont Cemetery in his mind, but he couldn't find anything special. It seemed that he would have to wait until the next time he left to search for clues.

Then there was the matter of Raikou. He had its eyes on the Tomb Palace as well. Although Cain's strength had surpassed Raikou's now, and on the surface, He was very respectful towards him, Raikou still felt like a ticking time bomb that made Cain uneasy.
