Bab 27: Labors Of The Undead - Part 1
As Lawrence stood in the colosseum, Hercules explained to him the trials he must face in order to obtain his strength and integrity. Hercules was impressed by Lawrence's willingness to undertake the labors, and he knew that Lawrence had the potential to become a true hero.
Hercules told Lawrence that he would need to complete twelve labors in total, but because he was a normal human, Hercules would adjust the difficulty of the trials accordingly. However, even with the difficulty lowered, there was still a high chance that Lawrence might fail. Lawrence was undeterred, though, and he vowed to complete the trials no matter what.
The first labor that Lawrence was tasked with was to slay the Nemean Lion. This was no ordinary lion, as its skin was impervious to any weapon, and it could not be killed by ordinary means. However, Lawrence was given a powerful bow and arrows that were capable of piercing the lion's skin. He also had to use his wits and agility to avoid the lion's attacks. After a fierce battle, Lawrence finally killed the Nemean Lion and obtained its pelt as proof of his success.
The second labor was to kill the nine-headed Lernaean Hydra, a monster with regenerative powers. Every time one of its heads was cut off, two more would grow in its place. Lawrence was given a flaming sword to cauterize the stumps of the heads after he cut them off, preventing them from growing back. He also used a shield to protect himself from the monster's poisonous breath. After a long and grueling battle, Lawrence finally succeeded in killing the Hydra.
The third labor was to capture the Golden Hind of Artemis, a deer with golden antlers that was sacred to the goddess. Lawrence had to track down the elusive deer and capture it alive, without harming it in any way. The deer was incredibly fast and agile, and it led Lawrence on a wild chase through the forest. However, Lawrence was eventually able to outsmart the deer and capture it.
The fourth labor was to capture the Erymanthian Boar, a ferocious beast that lived on a mountain. Lawrence had to track down the boar and capture it alive, without harming it in any way. The boar was incredibly strong and aggressive, and Lawrence had to use all of his strength and cunning to subdue it. In the end, he was able to capture the boar and bring it back to Hercules.
The fifth labor was to clean the Augean Stables, which had not been cleaned in years and were overflowing with manure. Lawrence had to use his strength and ingenuity to divert two rivers and wash away the filth. It was a dirty and exhausting task, but Lawrence was able to complete it successfully.
The sixth labor was to slay the Stymphalian Birds, a flock of man-eating birds with sharp metallic feathers. Lawrence was given a pair of cymbals to create a loud noise that would frighten the birds, and a bow and arrow to kill them. He also used his agility to avoid the birds' attacks. After a fierce battle, Lawrence was able to slay all of the birds.
These were the first six labors of the twelve that Lawrence had to complete. Each labor was a grueling test of his strength, skill, and determination, and Lawrence knew that the rest of the labors would be just as challenging. However, he was more determined than ever to complete the trials and gain the herculean strength and integrity that he needed to save the world
