Bab 52: Master and Apprentice

~~~(POV: Nathan Opal)~~~
~~~(Location: Tatooine)~~~

They're both on guard and shielding their minds, and I'll admit they're strong mentally. My abilities allow me to tear through their minds if I wished, but that would leave them with extreme brain damage or completely brain dead. "You can try all you want! You're not seeing in our minds!" The padawan is the one to respond to my mental probes first.

The sharper hum of my yellow Varpeline blade overcomes the gentle hum of their normal crystals from Ilum. "If I wished, I could rip your minds asunder, but I'm not a fan of seeing an entire person's life and thoughts when I do that." There is a drawback to this ability. The information overload can cause me pain equivalent to a rock rolling around in my brain.

Doing it to two Jedi would leave me vulnerable to attacks. "Master Karr, please reconsider this! You're acting like a mad man! Indulging in your emotions and the Darkside! Think what this is doing to Jaesa!" One of the masters protecting the senators and diplomats tries to reason with the man. I can sense there is a long friendship there, but Nomen Karr is too consumed.

My eyes never leave the pair, and Nomen Karr slowly approaches. His lightsaber is raised in his guard, and after a few steps, he leaps at me. He raises his blade over his head and slams the attack down on me. I easily block it and redirect it in another direction as I create some space. "I didn't take you for a D'jem-So user." I saw in his mind briefly earlier.

He counted on that and tried to catch me off guard. He's a Soresu and Ataru practitioner. He's not an idiot. That mind game would've worked against a Knight or Dark Lord. "What'd you expect! Some amateur that doesn't even know how to hold a lightsaber!? Jaesa, follow my lead!" They launch an attack at the same time, and their coordination is great.

I'm only blocking, dodging, and redirecting at this point. They ramp up their attack and start to channel the force into their attacks. I jump as Jaesa attacks my legs, and I turn and spin my body mid-air since Nomen Karr attacks my head. I use Force Push out of my feet to send Nomen Karr flying. Leaving me alone with his apprentice.

I use my expertise in Niman and Shien, overwhelming her with brilliant and superior blade skills. She moves her doubled-bladed hilt in front of her torse, and I use that opening to kick her lightsaber hilt and send her flying. I hold my blade above my head and block an ariel strike from Nomen Karr. I spin kick him with my back still turned to him, and he flies back into the sand.

I leap across the distance I sent Jaesa and prepare to drive my lightsaber into her as I fall. An over head attack is ill-advised in this situation. Right before I can deliver the blow, she's pulled away with the force and into the arms of Nomen Karr. "Impressive, Master Karr. You are a superior fighter to the other Master Jedi's and Sith I've faced." He grits his teeth, and his eyes turn red.

Cementing his fall to the Darkside. Jaesa is slowly getting up but steps away from Nomen Karr. "What are you doing, Jaesa! We have him! We need to push harder!" She looks at her Master in fear, but he continues his descent into the Dark. "Fine, if you won't help me! I'll finish him off myself." I don't know where he gets the idea that I'm hurt or tired.

His ego and pride are swelling, blinding him to the truths before his eyes... That he's no match for me. "Nomen Karr, that's enough!" Satele yells from the side, and her emotions are in perfect check. Master Karr refuses to listen, and he charges towards me. We lock blades, and I stare into the red eyes of a man that has fallen from the supposed Light Side.

He shifts his body weight to prepare for a new attack, and I respond. We flip, dodge, block, and duel in a performance I haven't been in since Nar Shaddaa. His energy is depleting fast, and he's losing speed. I lock blades with his again in an X below our waists. I spin his blade, and he loses his grip. It's sent flying from his hand, and he's now weaponless.

My blades tip holds him from moving as it's millimeters away from his throat. "You've lost this battle, Master Jedi. Your fate lies in your next move." The meaning behind my words is clear. If he admits defeat, he'll live. If he tries to continue fighting, he'll die... Before he does anything. I leap into the air dodging a Force Push. His friend lands beside him, ready to help.
