What exactly was a Nightmare?

Kai had long pondered the nature of these dark entities, especially now, as he found himself engulfed in a sea of shadows that felt far more sinister than any mere dream. It was a realm where reality twisted and sanity flickered like a dying flame, where hope was often lost in the suffocating dark. Breathing within this shadowy abyss didn't grant him solace; instead, it felt like drowning in despair.

Bound by the unyielding tentacles that snaked around him, Kai grunted in frustration. His Endowment—his unique magical ability—was rendered entirely useless in this realm of shadow. Lightning, which normally danced at his fingertips, was silenced, leaving him vulnerable. "Damn," he muttered, squirming against the binding tendrils. "Let go." But the shadows tightened their grip, and he could feel the pressure mounting.
