Bab 283: Lydia help

The night seemed to collapse into itself as the vampires lunged at us, their figures swift and terrifying, like shadows with teeth.

My breath hitched, the world narrowing to the alley and the vicious snarls of the creatures in front of us. Isabel was already in motion, her body a blur of strength and grace, but I felt helpless, rooted in place by fear.

Then, suddenly, something warm and invisible wrapped around me. A soft hum buzzed through the air, and I realized I was encased in a glowing, translucent barrier a protective shield, shimmering faintly in the moonlight.

Isabel must've put it up. I pressed my hand against the surface, feeling a strange energy thrumming beneath my palm. I was safe for now.

Isabel, on the other hand, was in the thick of it. She moved with an inhuman speed, striking out with brutal force. Her fists connected with the first vampire's jaw, sending him crashing against the alley wall with a sickening thud.
