Bab 48: Shadowgate Key

Dyce recoiled in horror, his eyes wide with terror and revulsion. Witnessing his once-proud mercenaries reduced to shambling, undead husks was more than he could bear.

"Y-You monster!" he stammered, his voice thick with fear and loathing.

Shiva's smile only widened, his expression one of wicked amusement. "I warned you."

As the undead horde closed in, their bones creaking with each step, Dyce knew he had no choice. With trembling hands, he withdrew the key and tossed it toward Shiva's feet.

"There!" he cried, his voice tinged with equal parts fear and resentment. "Take the cursed key and spare me!"

Shiva's grin broadened as he bent down and retrieved the key, his fingers curling around the cold metal. With a casual wave of his hand, the undead halted, their empty eye sockets fixed upon their master.

"A wise decision," Shiva mocked. "But you should have acquiesced sooner."
