Bab 47: Bandit Scouts
Three months passed since they started preparing for the noble's planned invasion.
Reports regarding bandit scouts were popping up in Blanc's office every once in a while.
They have to act soon in order to prevent the bandit scouts from getting more information from them.
Currently, the bandits know that they have around 200 men.
They've managed to pretend that they didn't know about the noble's coalition army but if they want to keep it that way, they have to seal the mouths of the scouts at the perfect moment.
Fortunately, they already knew the outposts of all the bandit scouts and they can kill them all anytime.
Once they march out towards the small valley, that would be the perfect time for the town's scouts to finish off the enemy scouts.
This will make the noble's coalition army think that they have them under control but when it comes to the crucial moment in the battle of information, the nobles' army will suddenly find themselves on the losing end.
At that point, it would be too late to back off.
It would alert the nobles' army if they killed the enemy scouts too early. If they kill the enemy scouts too late, then their plans would be exposed.
Since they have a lesser number of soldiers, they have to play the information game perfectly.
Another two weeks passed.
The nobles' army is getting closer and closer to the small valley.
Blanc's scouts were currently on the move, they were rapidly closing in on the enemy scouts who seemed to have no idea that they'd long been found out.
A few more hours later, sounds of skirmishes can be heard in different locations.
"You rats think that our mayor hasn't noticed your stupid actions? Die!"
"W-Wait let's talk about thi- AAAAHHH!"
The actual battle didn't last for more than ten minutes though as Blanc's scouts were extremely powerful compared to the undisciplined and lazy bandits.
They were easily cut down by Blanc's scouts.
There were some who tried to flee. Unfortunately for them, their escape routes were already sealed.
The first phase of their operation was a huge success!
Not a single enemy managed to escape thanks to Blanc's meticulous planning. In addition, their scouts were a lot stronger and disciplined than the enemy scouts.
They had no chance to escape right from the start.
Time to proceed to the second phase.
Upon receiving reports of their huge success in phase one, Blanc immediately ordered the warriors to load the fortifications onto their horse carts and bring them toward the designated location.
The town was very busy. Blanc didn't hide the fact that the nobles' army was attacking them. However, he did assure them that they would be safe.
He assured them that the warriors would win. As a result, they did their best to help the warriors load the fortifications on the horse carts.
A few hours later, all the fortifications were ready for transport.
All the warriors were marching beside the horse carts as they started their march towards the small valley.
The citizens lined up on the side of the streets and sent the warriors off with prayers and blessings.
The warriors were deeply touched. Their fighting spirit was ablaze. They swore to protect this peaceful town even if it cost them their lives.
After 2 days of marching, Blanc's troops finally arrived at the small valley.
There was no time to waste. They quickly unloaded the fortifications and set them up in their respective areas.
In addition to the fortifications, Blanc also ordered his men to dig pitfall traps with huge wooden stakes underneath.
The pitfall traps were set up in different locations on the periphery of the battlefield.
They were vastly outnumbered so they needed all the free soldier kills they could get to ease the warriors' burden by even a small amount.
It took them three days but finally, their preparations were complete and they were ready for battle.
One of the scouts sent them a report that the enemy would arrive in around 2 days.
Knowing that they still had 2 days before the battle, they organized their food and potion supplies to pass the time.
They also made sure that they had plenty of rest so they would be full of energy on the day of the battle.
two days quickly passed.
The enemy already noticed that their scouts were probably taken out but they still decided to push through their operations.
In their minds, they thought that there was no way that this small army of 200 men could defend against their 800-strong army.
Unfortunately for them, Blanc's army is already lying in wait with various fortifications and traps. Ready to intercept them in the small valley.
His warriors and archers were in position.
A little while later, the two armies meet. The nobles' army was visibly surprised to encounter Blanc's army here in the small valley.
The nobles' army commanders weren't that concerned though. They still think that there's no way they would lose here regardless of the location.
The two armies were glaring at each other.
Soon, the town's warriors will engage in their first battle against invaders.
