Bab 272: Choice

"The child is not… yours!" she whispered in a low voice when he laughed, confusing her.

"Ha! I am so nervous about being a father that I am hearing words." he shook his head as he forced another nervous laughter. "It has been a week, right. You must have been.." she held his arms and shook her head. Her heart was bleeding at his denial.

"You heard me right, Damien. The child is.." she bit her lips hard until they bled.

The silence felt like a lead between them. Her words echoed in his mind, again and again, like someone stabbed him with a dagger again and again at the same point. He was bleeding and going numb. The excruciating pain made him unable to breath for a second. As if the lungs had refused to take the air in. but his nose took the air there anyway. His chest was heaving slowly.
