Bab 8: "I am not a body snatcher,"
Circe tossed and turned, her brow glistening with sweat as a fever raged through her body. She was wholly unaware that she was ill as she sank deeper and deeper into a weird dream.
In her dream, she found herself wandering through a chilling darkness unlike the dark abyss, the cold seeping into her bones. Soft cries echoed around her, drawing her towards a figure huddled on the ground.
Approaching cautiously, Circe discovered a young woman, her tear-streaked face illuminated by the faint light surrounding her. She could instantly tell who this person was. It was the young woman whose body she was now in possession of.
"Uh, what kind of sick twisted joke is this?" she muttered to herself as she hesitated to move forward. Not only did this poor unfortunate soul die prematurely but she also had to see the person who took her place. This was too cruel.
Uncertain of how to proceed, Circe hesitantly settled beside her listening to her soft sobs. After some time the young woman turned to meet Circe's gaze, her eyes swollen and red, yet filled with sadness.
As they sat in silence, Circe struggled to find the right words. She eventually said, "I am not a body snatcher."
Ci Ci, "..."
"Body snatchers are usually ugly AF. They aren't as pretty as me... I just wanted to get that out there," she said and this somehow made the young woman stop crying.
"What did I ever do... to deserve such an end? I just wanted the person I like to like me too," she eventually said her voice brittle.
Circe didn't know what to say. She raised her hand and stiffly did what her mother used to do for her. With a soft pat pat at the top of her head, she said, "There, there," before retracting her hand but the young woman collapsed on her shoulder and began to wail louder. She even nozzled Circe like a cat making Circe stiffen.
Circe, "..."
She wanted to push her off but she found that this person was clinging to her tightly. If she used her full strength she would hurt her.
"Well, how about this. I can exact revenge for you and you can rest in peace. Does that sound good," she asked and the young lady blew her nose on Circe's clothes.
Circe, "..."
Did this brat want to die a second time? If yes then she would make arrangements for a second death immediately.
She gritted her teeth and asked, "Do you mind?"
The young woman apologised softly while letting her go. Circe glanced at her dry shoulder and realised that this was a dream so it wouldn't be wet.
"I will revenge for you and you tell the guy upstairs if he exists that they need more security in the dark abyss. Someone broke into the dark abyss and abducted my soul," she said venting out her anger.
Ci Ci blew her nose on a tissue that appeared out of nowhere before looking at her confusedly. "What?"
Circe, "..."
"Do you have any other grievances apart from revenge that you want me to resolve on your behalf so you can you know... step into the light?" asked Circe and the young lady put on a thoughtful expression like she was a serious scholar before saying,
"I want you to find love and get married on my behalf."
Circe, "WTF!!"
"Out of the question. Do I look like the type to fall in love and play house? Hahaha no," she said and the young woman's face contorted and she started crying again.
Circe couldn't stand it anymore so she waved her hands frantically and decided to promise for now. Whether she would keep the promise was another thing. Who would hold her accountable anyway? She had helped resentful spirits in the past but this was the first time she had to fulfil such a ridiculous request.
"Okay okay okay I will do my best," she said and the girl stopped crying.
"But to get revenge for you I need to know everything about you," she said and the young woman nodded her head as her body started radiating an intense blinding white light. She covered her eyes and when the light died down memories belonging to Ci Ci came pouring in like a torrent storm.
Circe's (a.k.a Ci Ci) story...
Ever since the emergence of the creatures that threatened to overrun the continent and world as a whole and the alliance was formed there had been a rise in interest in these mythical beings that had only ever existed in the shadows.
In the past, anyone who proclaimed the true existence of vampires and werewolves would be considered crazy and become society's laughingstock.
As for witches, they were considered a bunch of crazy women who needed to be locked up in a psychiatric ward. But now in these current times, they were a trend or what most aspired to be or have in their families.
Suddenly vampires, werewolves and witches became a hot commodity. It was because of this that most wanted to have children with them but this obsession was more prominent among the rich and affluent.
That being said, Perse was a woman who loved the soft life and aspired to live a luxurious lifestyle. Because she was beautiful and had already been involved in the escort industry for a long time she claimed she was a witch with innate power.
She would buy potions and elixirs hence she managed to fool everyone. When she finally found her perfect target she went on to fall pregnant by him. He was Lord Dugal of the Gelland family. He was already married but he had a strong desire to have a child who wasn't ordinary thus when he met Perse he dove in head first.
Throughout her pregnancy, she was treated like a princess living a lavish life but how could his wife Lady Agnes let it slide? Soon her lies were exposed and she was thrown back to the gutters to give birth.
The Gelland family could have ignored this despicable woman and her offspring but Lord Dugal had bragged to all in the upper echelon that he was going to have a powerful child plus Perse was a shrew and caused trouble everywhere drawing attention to the Gelland family.
