"I am the angel Castiel," the boy- no angel answered through Adam's mouth.
"Castiel?" Sam questioned in shock.
"You know of me?" Castiel suddenly spoke, hearing a tint of recognition from Sam's voice. A recognition not distant, as if he knows him closely, unless...
"Sam, is that you? Did you arrive here as well?" Castiel questioned, his tone filled with desperation and hope.
Hearing this, Sam's started thinking and everything to him seemed to slow down.
As he looked at Castiel he saw him, the real Castiel below the image of Adam, a creature of light, that he knew should be bigger than this entire building was not even larger than the wall behind him.
A creature with its wings of light, surrounded by fire and a boiling water like substance, filled with wounds and poisonous darkness.
His many faces and eyes scarred and some blinded, and then he understood.
"You're not from this world, you're from an alternate reality." Sam blurt out in shock as his hold over Castiel came undone.
"What are you doing inside Adam? Why are you possessing him?" Sam questioned sternly.
"Would someone explain to me what the fuck is going on!?" John yelled out. Everything happening so fast that he just got out of shock as Kate had fainted in his arms.
"Not now father!" Sam ordered sternly, his gaze not leaving the fallen angel on the ground. John luckily still having enough sense in him to stand down and observe.
"You- You're not my Sam..." Castiel stated, as if he muttered it to himself.
"How did you know I'm from another universe?" Castiel questioned as he pushed against the wall, getting up, using it as an aid to not fall.
"You left me enough clues from your statement earlier, not to mention my own abilities. Now talk, how- no why are you here?"
As Sam states this Castiel's eyes lit up as if he realized something. "Your foresight, of course. I believed it was merely the manipulation of your mind by Azazel, but now I know it wasn't.
You- You were looking into other worlds similar to your own... That's how he knew, that's why everyone failed... If only we knew..." Castiel muttered brokenly.
"Castiel! Castiel!" Sam called out to him as he hastened to him, shaking him out of whatever horror he remembered.
"I don't know how I ended up here..." Castiel began as he finally regained concentration towards the world around him
"Last I remember, I- I was on a suicide mission following Dean who had the Colt to go kill the Devil.
Lucifer was possessing you.
Michael was dead, he had killed all the angels, the Croatoan virus infected nearly all of humanity and those who weren't were picked off like flies. No one was left, and nothing worked against him.
All the weaknesses of an angel were- were accounted for and negated through use of your powers. Any trap that weakens an angel he would break with your abilities be it holy fire or the like.
We couldn't disable his abilities either because they weren't demonic, they were just, human, so it had no weaknesses...
He- he killed Dean in front of me, and I could do nothing. Broke his neck, beneath your- his heel.
And then- then he killed me, he put your- his hands on my face, brought me closer and with a kiss on my forehead, he burned me up from the inside...
And then I woke up here, in this universe, no idea how, near Adam who'd just been mugged and stabbed, and I who had regained some of my grace, after having been completely human since I fell, asked him to allow me to possess him to be able to heal him from the inside.
I was too weak to do so otherwise. His soul has been healing me with its presence. The rest as you humans say, is history..." Castiel explained brokenly.
Sam and John didn't know what to say. Sam himself was still in shock, reeling from the information provided.
John who saw this, who had more experience with shock than his son who had always been able to plan ahead for all possible variables until now wasn't so used to it, took Castiel out of Sam's hold and put him on the couch where Sam sat, opposite to where Kate was layed down.
He helped his son sit down and picked up a chair, put it before the couch and sat on it beginning to address the angel.
"You're telling me, your from another universe?" John questioned.
"Yes," Castiel answered absentmindedly.
"You- You just said that Sam has the ability to see into these worlds?"
"I presume so, otherwise there is no way he'd have been able to understand how I'm here. It would also explain Lucifer overcoming Michael, because he'd have seen his battle with him in thousands of other worlds and would've been able to plan for every scenario." Castiel explained.
"How did he come to possess my son? From what I've heard you feathers need permission. Why would my son ever allow the devil in?" John questioned, his tone angry, disbelieving in that scenario ever happening.
"Because I wanted to fix things..." Sam finally spoke out, getting out of his shock, making both of them turn their gaze towards him, John having to turn around a bit.
"What?" John asked confused.
"Indeed," Castiel began, regaining John's attention.
"I let him possess me because... I because if I brought out, it would be my responsibility to put him back in... But it seems I failed in your world..."
"You mean there are worlds you succeeded?" Castiel immediately questioned, akin to a light coming back into his eye, but not a good one, one that is fear.
"Yes...," Sam muttered. "I won against him, but- but not alone. I had you, Bobby and Dean with me. Especially Dean.
Dean was my rock, my stone number one, I had faith in Dean, hope in a better future for Dean, belief in Dean's faith in me and I just... Did it. Overpowered him, opened the Cage and jumped in." Sam explained and as he did Castiel couldn't help but let out a broken laugh.
"All this time... All this time, I thought maybe it was hopeless from the beginning. That this was just fate a cruel fate, but fate none the less.
That it wasn't our fault that all this evil happened. That the devil won. But apparently it is. Its always been our fault...
We abandoned you Sam, Dean and me. Bobby tried to tell us what we were doing was stupid, but we didn't listen.
I blamed you because- because I didn't wish to blame myself when I was the one who let you out of that panic room to begin with.
It was all my fault, all my fault!" Castiel roared as he began hitting himself.
"Hey, hey, hey! Stop that! It wasn't your fault!" Sam yelled as run to him and held him stopping him from hitting himself.
"How can you even say that Sam? After you yourself have seen it. I know you have, I saw your face when you went into shock. How can you say that after you saw all that horror?" Castiel questioned brokenly as tears streamed down his- Adam's face.
"You didn't know Castiel, you didn't know. If it weren't you, it would have just been someone else who'd have done it.
I know what they did to you, the torture they put you through, it's not your fault." Sam told him as he pulled him into a hug, causing Castiel to cry harder into his chest, while John watched, trying to pick the pieces and complete the puzzle that was his son and this angel.
"I don't know what to do..." Came Castiel's muffled words from Sam's chest.
"We'll figure it out together alright? We'll save everyone in this world, we won't fail this time." Sam told him.
"How do you know?" Castiel questioned with a sniff.
"Because I have faith," Sam said as he broke the hug and looked Castiel directly in his reddened eyes from the crying.
"In who? God? He left Sam, he left us to rot." Castiel said bitterly.
"I don't believe that, and He's not the one I'm talking about. I'm talking about us, about Dean, Father, Bobby, Ellen, Jo, and everyone else.
Now Cas, tell me, will you help me?" Sam questioned, his eyes full of sincerity.
Castiel stayed silent for a moment until he nodded.
"Yes..."
