Chapter 30: Class Rank Number One!
Dealing with a student with a severe brain disorder had already pushed Lisa Liang's patience to the limit. She continued to look through Emma Roberts' exam papers. However, when she saw Emma's literature score, she was stunned, "Literature... 142 points..."
The students below the podium exchanged confused looks.
"What did the homeroom teacher just say? 142 points? What the hell?"
"She must have made a mistake, right?"
"Uh, can you really mix up 0 and 142 points?"
Lisa Liang thought she had found the wrong paper, so she checked the name again, but no mistake, it was Emma Roberts! What does scoring 142 in literature mean? The full score for literature is 150. Even top students rarely score above 140.
Holding back her suspicion, Lisa Liang turned to Emma's social studies exam. The social studies score was even more outrageous! Out of 300 points, Emma scored 296!
Finally, there was the English exam. When Lisa saw Emma's English score, she was completely speechless. "English, 150 points... how is this possible!" She taught English, and this time she graded the English papers of Class A. No one in Class A got a full score, with the highest being 148. Yet Emma's score was a perfect 150?
Lisa Liang frantically shuffled through the papers again and found the ranking list at the bottom. On the top line of the ranking list was Emma Roberts' name. Emma's class rank was — number one!
"Ms. Liang, can you tell me what my rank is?" the girl in the last row asked coolly.
Lisa Liang clutched the thin ranking sheet tightly, her face growing darker. Finally, she burst out, "Emma Roberts! You've really outdone yourself! How dare you cheat!!!"
As if she had expected this reaction, Emma calmly asked, "On what basis do you think I cheated?"
Lisa Liang's face turned livid, and she shouted, "You didn't cheat? How could you score 142 in literature! 296 in social studies! 150 in English! And be number one in class!?"
Hearing Lisa's words, the entire class erupted.
"What the hell! Scores that high?"
"First in class? Emma Roberts? Are you kidding? How is that possible!!!"
"She definitely cheated!"
"Do you have any evidence that I cheated?" Emma asked.
Lisa sneered, "Do I need evidence? Emma Roberts, do you think everyone else is an idiot?"
"Besides math, did anyone else score this high? If I'm the only one, how did I cheat?" Emma continued to ask.
As the classroom buzzed with noisy discussions, the math teacher, Zachary Brown, happened to pass by. Wearing slippers and looking sleepy, Zachary wandered in, "Ms. Liang, what's going on here? Why are you so angry early in the morning?"
Seeing his disheveled appearance, Lisa frowned, "Mr. Zhao, this is school. You should maintain some decorum!"
Zachary yawned, "I don't have class this morning..."
Although she didn't like his sloppy appearance, she knew he was a top math teacher, and even the principal turned a blind eye to his behavior.
---
Continuing from here, Lisa Liang felt a wave of frustration. "Mr. Zhao, this student, Emma Roberts, scored unbelievably high marks in all her subjects. I suspect she cheated."
Zachary glanced at Emma, then at the scores, and then shrugged. "Well, Emma has always been a diligent student. Have you considered the possibility that she actually studied hard for these exams?"
Lisa's eyes narrowed. "It's not just about hard work. These scores are too perfect."
Emma stood her ground. "Mr. Zhao, you're a math teacher. Do you think it's impossible for a student to achieve these scores through hard work and dedication?"
Zachary scratched his head. "Well, it's rare, but not impossible. Besides, unless you have concrete evidence of cheating, accusing a student isn't fair."
Lisa Liang fumed but couldn't counter his logic. "Fine. But I'll be keeping a close eye on you, Emma."
Emma nodded, her face calm but determined. "I welcome it, Ms. Liang. I have nothing to hide."
As the tension in the room slowly dissipated, the bell rang, signaling the start of the next class. The students began to settle down, but the atmosphere remained charged with disbelief and curiosity.
---
Emma's incredible scores and the subsequent accusations spread like wildfire through the school. Whispers and rumors filled the hallways, and students began to look at Emma with a mix of awe and skepticism.
Meanwhile, in the teacher's lounge, Lisa Liang couldn't shake off her doubts. She approached the principal, Mr. Smith, with her concerns. "Principal Smith, I believe Emma Roberts might have cheated on the exams. Her scores are just too perfect."
Principal Smith looked thoughtful. "Ms. Liang, I understand your concerns, but without solid proof, we can't make such accusations. Emma has been a consistent student, and her previous records show she's capable of high performance."
Lisa sighed. "I know, but this time it's different. I'll keep an eye on her."
Principal Smith nodded. "Do that. But remember, we must be fair and just in our approach."
Back in her room, Emma sat at her desk, reflecting on the day's events. She knew proving her innocence wasn't enough; she needed to consistently show her capabilities. With a determined look, she opened her books and began to study for the upcoming exams, ready to face any challenges head-on.
As days passed, Emma's resolve grew stronger. She worked tirelessly, not just to maintain her top position but to silence her doubters with undeniable evidence of her hard work and intelligence. The journey ahead was tough, but Emma Roberts was prepared to conquer it all.
The stakes were high, and the pressure was immense, but Emma's spirit remained unbroken. She knew that true strength came from within, and no amount of doubt or accusation could take that away from her.
