"Miss Chloe? Why are you here?" asked Ryan. He rolled down the window and looked at Chloe in surprise.
Staring at him for a while, Chloe finally recognized him, Ryan, Daniel's best friend. She seemed to have met him in the club that day.
"Miss Chloe, where are you going? I'll give you a ride." Ryan opened the door and offered kindly.
"Please send me to the funeral parlor in X City. Here's the address." She couldn't delay any longer. Without hesitation, she sat in the car and told Ryan where she wanted to go.
The funeral parlor? Ryan was surprised. He thought she wanted to go home. But whatever. She was Daniel's fiancee.
'Just do it for the sake of Daniel.'
"Miss Chloe, why are you going to the funeral parlor?" While Ryan was driving, he asked out of curiosity.
"I… have to see a very important friend." Chloe's voice trembled as she was worried and nervous. She wasn't in a mood for conversation.
Noticing her uneasiness, Ryan sped up. Normally, it would take two hours to get there. But since he drove faster, they should be able to get there in an hour and a half.
"Don't worry, Miss Chloe. We can arrive there before half past ten." Ryan comforted her.
Chloe nodded and looked outside the window anxiously.
Every minute seemed so long for her. Finally, they arrived at the funeral parlor.
As soon as the car stopped, Chloe jumped off. "Mr. Ryan, Thank you a lot. You can leave now. I need to go in first."
Ryan yawned, thought for a while, and nodded.
No stars or the moon could be seen in the dark night. The street lamps vaguely lit up the empty entrance of the funeral parlor, making it even colder and gloomier.
The moment Chloe looked up, she met a pair of sad eyes. She said in a low voice, "Lisa."
As Lisa saw her, she burst into tears. Her cries sounded so miserably in the quiet night.
"I am sorry. I should have come earlier for you." Chloe quickly walked towards Lisa and hugged her. "I should be here for you. I am sorry, Lisa."
Lisa shook her head, "No, it's not your fault. You knew nothing. Chloe, my mother died. I have lost her forever."
"Can you take me to see Aunt?" Chloe murmured.
With a nod, Lisa wiped away her tears, walking with Chloe to the mourning hall.
As they came in, Chloe saw Lisa's relatives were all here, trying to pay condolence and
see Mrs. Field for the last time.
Mr. Karl looked gaunt after losing his beloved wife. When he saw Chloe, he barely pulled himself together, "Miss Chloe, you are here. My wife liked you very much. She would be so happy to see you here."
Thinking about Mrs. Field, Chloe felt sad, "Uncle Karl, I feel so sorry for your loss. Please take care."
Although she didn't have much money, she took out her purse and gave all cash to Lisa. She knew Lisa must be short of money at this moment.
But Lisa didn't want to take it.
"I can't take your money. You worked hard and earned it from your shooting that day. How can you just give it to me?" Lisa put the money back into Chloe's purse.
"Take it if you still think I'm your friend. That's the least I can do. I just hope I can do more for you."
"Chloe, you have been helping me for too long. I really appreciate it but you have given me too much. Even without the money, I don't know when I will ever pay you back." As Lisa was speaking, her eyes welled up with tears again.
Chloe stared at her and wiped her tears away.
"We are each other's best friend. You don't need to pay me back. You owe me nothing."
Chloe put the money in Lisa's hand, "If you don't take it, I will think you are still angry about me."
Hearing this, Lisa hesitated for a moment and took it finally.
"Hey, the fatty who vomited on me. What are you doing here?" Ryan suddenly showed up.
"Mr. Ryan?" Chloe asked in surprise. She thought he had left and forgot about him completely. "You are still here?"
"Of course. As a gentleman, I think I should stay and wait for you. In case you need any help." Said Ryan kindly and politely.
"Gentleman? What kind of gentleman will call me a fatty?" Lisa sneered and said impatiently, "Let's leave here, Chloe."
Now Ryan saw Lisa's red eyes and realized she was crying just now. Considering the funeral parlor, he seemed to know something.
"Miss Chloe, please come with me for a word," Ryan said.
Hearing this, Lisa left to give them privacy.
After seeing Lisa walk away, Ryan took out a banking card from his wallet and handed it to Chloe. "Miss Chloe, I didn't know what happened exactly. But I want to offer my help. Please take this."
Chloe didn't want to take it. But after hesitating for a while, she took it on behalf of Lisa, "Thank you. I will tell her later."
Ryan nodded.
At this moment, there came a dazzling light not far away.
The light was so bright that Chloe covered her eyes subconsciously.
"Why did he come here?" Ryan muttered in surprise.
As the car door was opened, a tall and handsome figure got off and walked towards her step by step.
"Chloe, why are you here?" That was Nancy speaking.
Chloe raised her eyebrow, "Nancy? I want to ask you the same question. Why are you here?"
"I had dinner with Daniel in the evening. After knowing that you went to X City suddenly, I was worried about you so I asked Daniel to come here to check with me." Nancy looked at Daniel full of love.
But Chloe sensed something weird instantly.
"Oh, I see." Chloe walked to them with her arms crossed before her chest, "That's sweet of you, Nancy! But how did you know I came to X City so quickly? Are you spying on me?"
