The sudden slap jolted Kaden, dispersing his scattered thoughts and snapping his attention back to the present moment.
"What the heck? What was that for?"
His eyes bulged as his back trembled in pain. When he turned around, he saw the monk standing behind him with the same freaking smile on his face and the horrendous paddle in his hand.
The monk chuckled softly. "Distraction is the enemy of enlightenment. If you wish to understand the deeper mysteries, you must first learn to control your wandering mind."
As he said this he even casually swatted the paddle on his palm creating small thwacking noises, almost as if he was preparing for the next attack.
Kaden's eyes narrowed at the paddle and then flicked back to the monk's face. Nope!
"Alright, alright, I get it," Kaden said, rubbing his sore back. "Distraction bad, focus good. Can we proceed without the threat of physical violence now?"
