Max tried to keep his eyes open, but the weight of his droopy eyelid and the damp eyelash weighed down on him so that he had to close it at intervals.

He whispered softly to his human but he got no reply. Alexander had since given up on living and every minute that went by, Max could feel Alexander's consciousness slipping and like slime, the more he tries to hold on to his human, the more slippery it became.

He purred at him, trying to get him to do something. But just like yesterday and the day before that and the day before that, Max got just a murmur and some gibberish he couldn't make out and then his human was off again into the Cuckoo's world.
